Instructional Goal

The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) seeks to teach a diverse student population, with a commitment to equitable access particularly for those who are under-represented in graduate education.

Our instructional goal

Our goal is to educate graduate professionals in the fundamental principles needed to improve the health of the public equitably and in response to existing and emerging threats.

Our students will have the ability to develop, evaluate, and implement sound evidence-based public health interventions, programs, and policies within a social justice framework.

How we aim to achieve it

CUNY SPH strives to continuously apply transformative evidence-based pedagogical practices in our teaching and throughout the curriculum to:

  • create a learning community that promotes diversity, inclusion, equity, and integrity,
  • actively dismantle institutional practices, values, or cultures that let racism, classism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, xenophobia, or any other forms of intersecting oppressions,
  • promote critical thinking within a student-empowered environment,
  • exploit multi-modalities to facilitate learning and student engagement.
