In 2021, the CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy kicked off a new and virtual teaching workshop series called Teaching Matters. This series is a monthly, free, one-hour summit of CUNY faculty and staff devoted to sharing innovative teaching strategies and student-centered learning methods. Each gathering includes a focused, interactive and engaged peer-to-peer workshop, and a few practical teaching tips that can be used in any classroom.

Meet the team

Sergio Costa
Director, Office of Online Learning & Interim Assistant Dean for Digital Learning, Marketing and Communications

Dr. Sergio Costa teaches courses in social behavioral health and policy at CUNY SPH. His research interests include ​digital innovation in pedagogy, educational technology, future of workforce and education, political and social science approaches to public health inquiry and related areas. Before joining CUNY SPH, Dr. Costa was Director of Distance Learning at the University of Nebraska Medical Center – College of Public Health, and worked several years at Pearson Education on innovative educational services for college students.

Laura Meoli-Ferrigon
Manager of Learning Design & Multimedia Innovation 

Laura Meoli-Ferrigon holds an M.S. in Instructional Design & Delivery from Manhattan College and a B.A. in Film & TV Production from CUNY Brooklyn College. Laura assists faculty with course development, instructional design support and training. She is an integral part of the school’s innovation in education and creative projects, including the Making Public Health Personal Podcast, which she hosts and produces. Laura is a seasoned educator, filmmaker, podcaster, and author with over 16 years of experience. Her achievements include a NY Emmy Award, seven Telly Awards and multiple film festival wins.
