Delta Omega was founded in 1924 at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. Membership in Delta Omega reflects “the dedication of an individual to increasing the quality of the field, as well as to the protection and advancement of the health of all people.” With over 100 active chapters and over 20,000 members, Delta Omega and its members are dedicated to ensuring the quality of the field of public health and to the protection and advancement of the health of all people.

Each academic year, the Epsilon Chi Chapter of Delta Omega selects students, faculty, alumni and honorary members based on high academic standards and outstanding performance in scholarship, teaching, research and community service. Induction into the Epsilon Chi chapter of Delta Omega is intended to not only recognize merit, but also to encourage and further excellence in and devotion to public health work.

The CUNY SPH chapter, Epsilon Chi, was founded in 2020 by the 2019-20 Graduate Student Government Association (GSGA).

The Epsilon Chi Chapter invites prospective members through a highly selective process.

Students: Our chapter inducts no more than 10 percent of the current graduating student body. All student inductees must be in the upper 25 percent of their class academically.

Faculty: Our chapter inducts either five members or 3 percent of the full-time faculty a year, whichever is fewer. Faculty are selected based on a review of their work in the field.  Adjunct faculty may be inducted if they are employed full-time by our university and hold an adjunct position in our school.

Alumni: Our chapter inducts a maximum of 10 graduates a year. Alumni inductees’ work in the practice of public health should serve as a model for future graduates of the school.
