Host a fieldwork student

Hosting a fieldwork student is an opportunity to benefit from CUNY MPH student support while helping to prepare future graduates for public health practice. Students apply their public health skills in data analysis, program planning or evaluation, policy research, health communications, and more, to help organizations advance their work. All CUNY MPH students are required to complete 180 hours of applied learning in an approved setting, overseen by a preceptor at a host organization. Students receive 3 credits towards their degree for this work.

Any organization that researches, provides, plans for, coordinates, organizes, pays for, or regulates public health services is usually a valid fieldwork site. This can include government agencies, hospitals or clinics, community organizations, policy think tanks, consulting firms, research institutions, advocacy organizations, global health organizations or for-profit institutions. Projects may involve program planning, implementation or operation, applied public health research, community health education and outreach, health advocacy, or other appropriate public health-related work. Projects should have clear goals, activities, and associated deliverables.

Please contact oel@sph.cuny.edu for more information and to advertise a fieldwork opportunity to our student community.

Host an Employer Information Session

Each semester, we host the Employer Discovery Series” which includes stand-alone employer information sessions from a wide variety of organizations. These sessions allow you to introduce your organization and recruiting opportunities to our student and alumni community and build your brand on our campus.

Sessions are typically 60 – 90 minutes in length and timed strategically leading up to specific recruitment periods or initiatives at your organization. Currently these sessions are taking place virtually via zoom. We will set up and market your session. You show up and talk about the great work you are doing, opportunities for public health professionals, and answer attendee questions.  There is no cost to host an information session. Email careerservices@sph.cuny.edu for more information and host an information session for your organization.
