Throughout the academic year, we offer a variety of ways to recruit talent, increase your visibility, share your expertise, and build meaningful connections with CUNY SPH.

Become a Fieldwork Partner

Expand your organization’s capacity while supporting the next generation of public health professionals.

CUNY SPH MPH and MS students complete a required 180-hour applied practice experience, known as fieldwork, with organizations across government, healthcare, nonprofit, academic, and private-sector settings. Students contribute to meaningful public health projects while gaining hands-on experience that complements their graduate education.

By becoming a fieldwork partner, you can:

• Expand your team’s capacity through project-based support from graduate public health students
• Collaborate with students trained in research, policy, evaluation, data analysis, communications, health education, and community engagement
• Advance strategic initiatives, research projects, program evaluation, and community-based work
• Support the development of emerging public health professionals while strengthening your relationship with CUNY SPH

Fieldwork placements are developed collaboratively around your organization’s priorities, project scope, and supervision capacity. We’ll work with you to develop a placement that aligns with your needs and connect you with qualified students. The Office of Experiential Learning manages the fieldwork process, providing guidance to students, instructors, and fieldwork partners throughout the placement.

Participate in Virtual Interview Days

Virtual Interview Days provide a streamlined recruiting experience that helps you connect with qualified CUNY SPH students and alumni for internships, fellowships, part-time roles, and full-time positions.

We’ll work with you to design a Virtual Interview Day tailored to your hiring needs while managing promotion, scheduling, and event logistics so your team can focus on interviewing candidates and making hiring decisions.

Your Virtual Interview Day may include:

• Targeted promotion to relevant students and alumni
• Application collection through Handshake based on your hiring requirements
• Employer-led candidate selection
• Candidate scheduling and interview communications
• Pre-scheduled virtual interviews aligned with your hiring timeline
• An optional employer information session before interviews

Each event is fully customized. You may interview for one position or several, and schedules can range from a few interviews within one hour to a half-day or full day of recruiting. We’ll build the schedule around your interview format, timeline, and team availability while coordinating candidate communications and event logistics every step of the process.

Participate in the Spring Career Fair

Each spring, the CUNY SPH Career Fair brings employers together with talented graduate public health students and alumni for a day of recruiting, networking, and career exploration. Hosted virtually through Handshake, the event gives your team an opportunity to showcase your organization, highlight career opportunities, and connect with candidates across a wide range of public health disciplines.

At the Career Fair, you can:

• Meet students and alumni seeking internships, fellowships, part-time roles, and full-time positions
• Host group sessions highlighting your mission, workplace culture, and career
• paths
• Connect one-on-one with prospective candidates through scheduled meetings
• Share current and upcoming employment opportunities
• Increase your visibility within the graduate public health community

Host an Employer Coffee Chat

Employer Coffee Chats are informal networking sessions that connect students and alumni with your organization through relaxed, conversation-based discussions. Share your mission, workplace culture, career paths, and hiring process while answering questions and building professional connections—all in a conversational, low-preparation setting.

Coffee Chats are also one of the most popular ways for CUNY SPH alumni to reconnect, give back, and share their professional experiences with current students and fellow alumni through informal career conversations.

Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes and may be offered virtually or in person. Choose a group conversation, one-on-one networking appointments, or a combination of both based on your goals and preferred format. We’ll coordinate planning, promotion, registration, and logistics—you simply join the conversation and connect with students and alumni.

Host a Discovery Series Information Session

The Discovery Series is CUNY SPH’s signature information session series, offering a structured way for employers to showcase their organization, workforce initiatives, programs, or areas of expertise through presentations and interactive discussion. Sessions can be tailored to your goals—from introducing your organization and promoting a fellowship program to highlighting an emerging area of public health or sharing your professional journey.

Session formats include:

• Employer Discovery Series: Highlight your mission, workplace culture, career opportunities, and hiring process
• Career Discovery Series: Share your professional journey, career insights, and lessons learned as a public health leader or CUNY SPH alumnus
• Fellowship & Internship Discovery Series: Introduce structured programs that prepare emerging professionals for the field
• Credentialing Discovery Series: Present licensure pathways, certifications, continuing education opportunities, or professional credentials

Discovery Series sessions typically last 60 minutes and include a presentation followed by audience questions and discussion. Sessions can be scheduled around recruitment timelines, awareness campaigns, or other organizational priorities. We’ll coordinate planning, registration, promotion, and event logistics so your team can focus on delivering an engaging session.

Participate in Career Prep Days

Career Prep Days bring professionals together with CUNY SPH students and alumni through virtual, skills-based career development events. Rather than focusing on recruitment, these sessions give your team an opportunity to mentor emerging public health professionals while helping participants strengthen job-search skills and confidence.

Session formats include:

• Resume Review: Provide one-on-one feedback to help participants strengthen their resumes
• Interview Skills: Conduct mock interviews and share effective interviewing strategies
• Cover Letter: Offer guidance on structure, tone, and tailoring
• LinkedIn & Handshake Tune-Up: Help participants optimize their professional profiles and digital presence
• Ask a Recruiter: Answer questions about hiring practices, workplace culture, career paths, and recruitment timelines

Events are tailored to your team’s expertise and availability. Most run 1.5–2 hours, although larger programs may extend to three or four hours. Your team can participate at any scale—from a few volunteers to a full recruiting team. We’ll coordinate planning, registration, scheduling, and logistics so your team can focus on sharing your expertise.

Host an Employer Site Visit

Employer Site Visits give small groups of CUNY SPH students the opportunity to experience public health in practice through a behind-the-scenes look at your organization. Through tours, conversations with staff, and exposure to real-world settings, participants gain a deeper understanding of career pathways, workplace culture, and day-to-day public health practice.

Site Visits also give your team a chance to showcase your work and impact while building relationships with students interested in your field.

A typical visit may include:

• A welcome and organizational overview
• An office, facility, or program tour
• An employee or leadership panel
• Career pathway discussions
• Networking with staff
• A Q&A session
• Information about internships, fellowships, and employment opportunities

Employer Site Visits typically last 2–3 hours and are planned around your operations, space, and team availability. We’ll coordinate registration, participant communications, and event logistics so your team can focus on showcasing your workplace and connecting with students.

Lead Workshops & Speaking Events

Throughout the academic year, we invite employers, alumni, and public health professionals to share their expertise through workshops, panels, networking events, symposiums, and other career and professional development programs.

Ways to participate include:

• Serve as a panelist for career or industry discussions
• Lead a professional development workshop or skill-building session
• Present a masterclass or specialized training
• Speak at a networking event, symposium, or special program
• Join an employer Q&A session or fireside chat
• Share your career journey or subject-matter expertise with students and alumni

We’ll match speaking and facilitation opportunities to your expertise, interests, and availability. These programs allow you to contribute to career education while strengthening your visibility among CUNY SPH students and alumni.
