The Advanced Certificate in Industrial Hygiene, a twelve-credit program, is designed to provide working professionals with the skills required to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control occupational hazards. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (BGC) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) exam. Coursework completed in this program will meet BGC’s eligibility requirement for academic content hours. Most students should be able to complete the certificate program in one year.
* The Advanced Certificate in Industrial Hygiene alone does not guarantee eligibility for the Board for Global EHS Crendentialing’s Certified Industrial Hygienist exam. This certificate will only fulfill the “180 academic contact hours” criterion listed here. Students must be in compliance with all other standards to sit for the exam.
The credits earned in the certificate program can be applied to the CUNY SPH MS in Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences program or transferred into academic programs at other institutions (subject to transfer policies). The maximum allowable transfer credits that can be transferred into the advanced certificate is 3 credits. These credits must be at the graduate level, from an accredited public health program, with a grade of B or better, and should not have been used toward another degree.
Please note that financial aid and student loans are not available for this certificate program. You may be eligible for payment plans with CUNY. For more information on payment plans, please review the SPH payment options page.
