CUNY SPH is pleased to welcome Danelle McClanahan, EdD to the staff as executive chief diversity officer.
Dr. McClanahan is an accomplished higher education executive and diversity strategist with more than 14 years of leadership experience advancing institutional excellence through equity, inclusion, and access initiatives. She has held senior leadership roles including associate vice president of institutional equity title IX coordinator, director of diversity ombudsperson, and associate director of multicultural affairs, where she led enterprise-wide initiatives focused on organizational culture, compliance, student success, and workforce diversity. She also serves as a diversity content expert for dissertation committees at Grand Canyon University.
A certified affirmative action professional, Dr. McClanahan has a proven record of designing and implementing high-impact diversity strategies, strengthening institutional policies and practices, fostering advocacy, inclusive engagement, wellness, and welcoming campus climates, and advancing the recruitment, retention, and development of underrepresented faculty, staff, and students. Her leadership approach integrates strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and data-informed decision-making to support institutional transformation and sustainable organizational change.
Dr. McClanahan earned her Doctor of Education (EdD) in educational leadership and management from Capella University, where she also served as a teaching assistant. Her doctoral research examined diversity and inclusive hiring practices in higher education. Her ongoing scholarship and professional interests focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, access, leadership development, and global preparedness in higher education.
