Register for the event through Handshake. Registration opens September 29, 2026.
After registering, check your Qualtrics confirmation email for a link to the session sign-up spreadsheet. Add your name to an available time slot for each host you would like to meet.
Sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Visit the Host Bios page to learn about each participating professional’s background, organization, experience, and networking advice. Consider your career interests, questions, and goals when deciding whom you would most like to meet.
You may sign up for up to five networking sessions.
Each conversation is 15 minutes, followed by a 5-minute transition period before the next session.
Session availability is first come, first served. If a host’s sessions are full, we encourage you to explore the Host Bios and consider connecting with another participating professional whose experience aligns with your interests.
Before the event, review the bios of the hosts you are scheduled to meet, prepare a brief professional introduction, and develop 2–3 thoughtful questions for each host.
Visit our Preparation Tips page for a complete guide to preparing, participating, and following up.
Yes. A brief professional bio is required as part of attendee registration for Virtual Speed Networking. Your bio provides participating hosts with an introduction to your background and professional interests.
Need help writing yours? Visit our Preparation Tips page for guidance and examples.
Your professional bio should provide a brief overview of your academic or professional background, public health interests, relevant experience or skills, and career interests. Visit our Preparation Tips page for a step-by-step guide and sample bios.
A resume is not required for your networking conversations. You may choose to upload your resume when registering, and we encourage you to keep it updated as part of your overall career preparation.
CUNY SPH Career Services offers Career Coaching Drop-In Hours for resume and CV support, networking guidance, career exploration, interviewing, job and internship searches, and other career questions.
You can also explore upcoming workshops, Career Prep Days, employer events, and other opportunities on the Career Events Calendar.
Join through the event information provided on Handshake. Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes before your first scheduled session so Career Services staff can help you get situated before networking begins.
Career Services staff will be available to help attendees get situated. During the event, each host will have a dedicated Zoom breakout room, and you will join the appropriate room for each of your scheduled conversations.
A dedicated Career Services breakout room will be available if you have a gap in your schedule.
Career Services staff will be available during the event to help attendees navigate the event and breakout rooms. We also recommend testing your camera, microphone, internet connection, and Zoom setup in advance.
No. Virtual Speed Networking is a professional development and networking event, not a recruitment event. Hosts are participating to share their experiences, perspectives, and advice with CUNY SPH students and alumni.
Start with a brief professional introduction and use the questions you prepared to guide the conversation. Ask about the host’s career journey, work, skills, professional experiences, or advice for someone interested in their field.
You don’t need to follow a script or ask every question you prepared. Listen actively, ask follow-up questions, and let the conversation develop naturally.
If you can no longer attend Virtual Speed Networking, please cancel your registration on Handshake and remove your name from any sessions you selected on the session sign-up spreadsheet. This will make your reserved time slots available to other attendees.
We encourage you to make these changes as soon as you know you are unable to attend.
You may change your session selections using the session sign-up spreadsheet. Remove your name from the session you can no longer attend, then add your name to another available time slot.
Please only select an open time slot and do not replace or remove another attendee’s name. Session availability is first come, first served.
Important: If your plans change, please update the spreadsheet as soon as possible so that other attendees have the opportunity to reserve the newly available session.
Yes. Host contact information will be added to the Host Bios page on the day of the event. You can use that information to send a brief, personalized thank-you message and stay connected when appropriate.
You can return to the Host Bios page after the event to find available contact information. If you reach out, introduce yourself, explain that you participated in CUNY SPH Virtual Speed Networking, briefly share why you were interested in connecting, and be respectful of the host’s time.
Attend Handshake Office Hours for one-on-one technical assistance with accessing or navigating your Handshake account.
