CUNY SPH is excited to announce that Cesar Herrera, co-founder and CEO of Yuvo Health, has joined the CUNY SPH Foundation Board of Directors.

“On behalf of CUNY SPH, I am thrilled to welcome Mr. Herrera to our Foundation’s board of directors,” says Dean Ayman El-Mohandes. “His dedication to serving underserved communities and advancing equitable healthcare perfectly aligns with our mission to improve population health and ensure everyone has access to quality care.”

Mr. Herrera is a trained public health professional, pragmatic leader and decision-maker. He launched Yuvo Health in 2021to increase access to free and low-cost health care for millions of Americans by creating a value-based care environment within federally qualified health centers. As a Filipino immigrant to the United States, he developed a firsthand knowledge of the struggles of working-class families and especially for those who lacked access to quality healthcare. Through Yuvo, he is working to change the narrative for community health centers by offering them access to sustainable revenue via value-based care.

After growing up in an immigrant household, Mr. Herrera went on to attend the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Stern School of Business. Compelled by his own lived experiences, he studied the impact of race, class, and gender on health. He applied his education in public and private sectors including policy work in Medicare policy, HIV initiatives, and value-based care strategy.

“Cesar lives our shared values every day in his work at Yuvo Health,” says Lyndon Haviland, CUNY SPH Foundation Board of Directors chairman. “He practices what he preaches and has placed public health at the center of his personal and professional missions. We’re thrilled to have him join our board as part of his public health journey.”

“Our students are in for a real treat with Cesar,” says Adam Doyno, CUNY SPH Foundation executive director and chief development officer. “He’s had his sleeves rolled up since we met in support of our students and community programming. He’s going to have a huge impact at New York City’s public school for public health.”
