POSITION: College Program Assistant (part-time)

ORGANIZATION: CUNY BMCC – Conexiones and Connections Program

Seeking Part-Time person to work with students at our Conexiones and Connections Program. Interested applicants must have knowledge of Microsoft Excel and creating spreadsheets. Also, knowledge of speaking Spanish is preferred, but not required. A bachelor’s degree is a must and a master’s degree is preferred. Pay will be between $25.00 to $30.00 per hour. 

The Conexiones and Connections program is open to all students who are interested in exploring and refining their purpose through their college experience. In addition to serving all students, the program offers a community of support for males of color. Our Spanish-speaking staff members offer bilingual support for our Latinx students. Program activities are designed for students to:

  • -Develop  habits for academic success
  • -Cultivate relationships with mentors and coaches
  • -Explore career-oriented employment and internship opportunities and expand their networking skills and leadership abilities

Conexiones prepares students for success at BMCC as well as their transition to a bachelor’s degree program and beyond. POSITION: Visiting Scholar – Public Health  

ORGANIZATION: SUNY Old Westbury  

The SUNY Old Westbury’s Department of Public Health has a core focus on the social determinants of health, and we invite applications for a Visiting Scholar, a one-year position as a Social Justice Fellow, beginning in the Fall 2023 Semester. Fellows will teach two courses per semester and spend considerable time developing the campus’s Center for Social and Environmental Justice. This is a one-year position that may be eligible for conversion into a tenure-track line.

We are looking for candidates who have a strong foundation in the social determinants of health, and who are passionate about building community partnerships and working with undergraduate students to help cultivate health equity in the NYC metropolitan area. Although we are flexible with respect to area of research focus, candidates with expertise in substance use, food justice, climate justice, or program planning and evaluation, and/or methodological expertise in quantitative methods are of particular interest.

SUNY Old Westbury Social Justice Fellows will receive reassigned time equivalent to one course per semester to develop and begin operationalizing the Old Westbury Center for Social and Environmental Justice (CSEJ). The Social Justice Fellows are based in academic departments across campus and, together, will form an interdisciplinary cohort under the aegis of Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing and delivering campus-wide programming related to social justice, including professional development programming and programming that will promote the work of the CSEJ within and beyond Old Westbury.
  • Collaborating on plans for the physical space of the CSEJ.
  • Collaborating with faculty working on the Black Studies Center, Women’s Center, El Conuco, and related Centers and programs, including co-curricular partnerships.
  • Establishing connections with community partners and local institutions to support and promote the work of the CSEJ.
  • Interfacing with and providing support for the Old Westbury Model particularly in areas of overlap with the CSEJ.
  • Engaging and collaborating with the PRODiG committee and fellows and the DEI & Social Justice Presidential Committee in a mutually supportive and beneficial manner.
  • Connecting and working with essential stakeholders on campus including but not limited to the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Title IX, and Ombuds, the Faculty Senate and governance bodies, Student Success programs and Student Affairs.

POSITION: Student Intern (part-time/hybrid) –  Community Health Worker Research & Resource Center (CHW-RRC)

ORGANIZATION: NYU Grossman School Of Medicine, Dept of Population Health

The Community Health Worker Research & Resource Center (CHW-RRC) is seeking a Student Intern to start in December. The candidate’s work will focus on assisting with preparing and tagging materials and content that will be uploaded into the newly developed CHW-RRC Repository.

The position is hybrid, based in New York City. It is anticipated the Student Intern will work 15-20 hours/week for a period of approximately three months beginning in December 2022. Applicants must be generally available during weekday business hours (e.g., Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm).  The student intern must be a full-time student, or if working in the summer months (Mid-May through Mid-Sept), must be planning to return to full-time status in the fall.

The Community Health Worker Research & Resource Center (CHW-RRC) is housed in the Department of Population Health and supported by NYU Langone Health’s Community Service Plan. The CHW-RRC was launched in 2018 to
create an organized approach to leveraging NYU Langone’s extensive community health worker (CHW) knowledge and expertise to strengthen and support emerging and existing CHW and patient navigator programs across NYU Langone and beyond to improve health, reduce health inequities, and recognize and help build community capacity and leadership.

The CHW-RRC Repository will be an online, publicly available, living library of templates, resources, guides, and other tools and materials specific to the CHW programs within NYU Langone Health. The main goal of the repository is to guide
CHW program implementation through access to resources, publicize the work that we are doing within our Centers, and highlight the work of CHWs.

Job Responsibilities:
The CHW-RRC Intern will be a core member of our CHW-RRC team and participate in meetings related to building out the Repository. Specific activities to include:
• Drafting project descriptions for the Repository website and other content as needed
• Tagging CHW project documents using search terms, prior to upload onto the
Repository website
• Attending review meetings with the external vendor
• Additional Repository-related tasks depending on candidate skill set and interest

The Center for an Urban Future (CUF) is an independent nonprofit public policy research think-tank that produces innovative analysis on economic development and workforce development issues in New York City, with a focus on promoting economic diversity while creating opportunities for disadvantaged populations and lower-skill workers. The Center seeks interns with experience in or degrees in public policy, urban planning, journalism, economics, government, social science, or related fields. During this internship, policy research interns will learn about the research and editorial processes of a think tank and how research reports can help guide, inspire, and spark policy changes based on successful written and verbal communication strategy. 

Responsibilities can include:  

  • Conducting background research and drafting memos on issues related to public policy to guide new and existing research projects.
  • Pulling, cleaning, and analyzing data from sources such as the US Census, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and American Community Survey.
  • Contributing to the report production process by drafting text, proof-reading, fact-checking, and editing.
  • Developing initial source lists for research outreach.
  • Coordinating phone and video interviews, conducting those interviews, and drafting memos based on findings and key themes.
  • Keeping up to date on local city and state policy, including attending hearings and presentations.

Skills and attributes we seek are:​

  • Strong writing and oral communications skills 
  • Ability to synthesize ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews over the phone and in person.
  • High level of competency in Microsoft Office, with proficiency in Excel.

POSITION: Green Girls College Intern – Spring’23

City Parks Foundation (CPF) is the only independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer programs in public parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City. At CPF, we are dedicated to invigorating and transforming parks into dynamic, vibrant centers of urban life through sports, arts, community development, and education programs for all New Yorkers. Our programs and community building initiatives — located in more than 350 parks, recreation centers, and public schools across New York City

Green Girls After School is a STEM-based program that engages middle school girls from under-resourced communities in hands-on activities and outdoor adventures in New York City parks and waterways. During our
weekly after school program, students explore environmental science and learn about different environmental issues through experiential education, service learning projects and student-centered discussions. CPF has created this internship opportunity for talented college students to gain hands-on experience working with youth and explore environmental science education while helping to promote environmental stewardship, community awareness and positive youth development. Green Girls After School program operates during the school year, after school hours between (3:00 pm – 6 pm) from February 2023 to June 2023. Each site meets once a week for a total of 12 weeks each semester.

CPF is seeking a college intern for the Fall to assist Green Girls After School Program Manager in providing instruction and guidance to middle school girls and high school interns during program hours for up to 15 hours each week.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge in environmental science and basic understanding of youth development. Green Girls After School takes place at 4 different sites throughout Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. The college intern will be required to travel to and from our Monday and Thursday program sites independently and participate in any planned field trips which take place throughout the city. The college intern may be asked to work at the CPF education department main offices at 1234 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10029 and virtually as needed. Salary: $18/hour

QUALIFICATIONS
● Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in education, ecology, biology, environmental science, or related field
● Experience working with and building rapport with youth and/or children a plus
● Knowledge and interest in urban forestry & wildlife, water ecology, waste management
● Understanding of scientific methods and science inquiry practices
● Awareness of current environmental issues and passion for socio-environmental change
● Interest in working with diverse students, all age groups, and low-income communities

POSITION:  Human Health and Community Resilience Fellow

ORGANIZATION: National Academies – Gulf Research Program (GRP

The Gulf Research Program’s Early-Career Research Fellowship helps early-career researchers during the critical pre-tenure phase of their careers. Fellows receive a $76,000 financial award along with mentoring support to provide them with independence, flexibility, and a built-in network as they take risks on untested research ideas and pursue unique collaborations.

To support scientists, engineers, and health professionals working on oil system safety, environmental protection, and human health issues relevant to the Gulf region, the Gulf Research Program will administer Early-Career Research Fellowships. These Early-Career Research Fellowships will contribute to a suite of capacity building activities by facilitating the academic, intellectual, and professional development of individuals who have superior scholarship promise. The fellowship will recognize early-career researchers for past performance and their future potential for substantial contributions to enhancing the protection of environmental and/or human health and/or the pursuit of safer offshore oil and gas operations. The fellowship will provide support for scientists, engineers, and health professionals at the critical pre-tenure phase of their careers.

POSITION: Science Policy Fellow

Gulf Research Program (GRP) Science Policy Fellowship helps scientists gain first-hand policy experience as they spend one year on the staff of federal, state, local, or non-governmental environmental, natural resource, oil and gas, and public health agencies in the Gulf of Mexico region.

With the guidance of a mentor, fellows delve into activities like policy development, evaluation, restoration planning, grants management, and stakeholder outreach and learn what it takes to make scientific information not just useful but useable. Meanwhile, host offices get a talented technical expert with a fresh perspective and a new network of contacts across the Gulf of Mexico region.

Stipend and Benefits – The GRP has increased the stipend amounts for our Science Policy Fellows to account for cost of living increases.

  • Fellows who have completed an MA, MS, or MPH/MSPH degree or who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program will receive an annual stipend of $58,000.
  • Fellows who have completed a PhD, ScD, EngD, MD, DrPH, or DVM will receive an annual stipend of $63,000.

In addition to the stipend, each fellow will receive an annual health allowance of $5,500, which will be added to the stipend package. The annual health allowance is intended to offset the cost of health insurance and/or to offset the cost of healthcare-related needs during the term of the fellowship. The stipend package will be paid directly to the fellow in monthly disbursements.

Fellows will also receive a $1,500 one-time payment prior to or at the beginning of the fellowship term to defray costs associated with relocation. No other relocation costs will be reimbursed.
