Senior Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs Ashish Joshi presented with inaugural CUNY SPH Legacy Award

At the 2022 CUNY SPH Commencement on June 2, Dr. Ashish Joshi, Senior Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, was presented with the inaugural CUNY SPH Legacy Award for his integral and founding role in the growth and success of the school.

Dean Ayman El-Mohandes presented Dr. Joshi with the award noting that, in order to properly pay tribute to his historic achievements, the school had to create this special distinction.

“Ashish is a builder, a scholar, a diplomat, a team player and a warm colleague and loyal friend to all of us at the school and today we recognize his monumental efforts to build our school with the Inaugural CUNY SPH Legacy Award,” the dean said.

Dr. Joshi will be leaving the school over the summer to assume a new role as Dean of the University of Memphis School of Public Health.

Dr. Joshi thanked the dean and the school and imparted some advice for the graduating class of 2022.

“You can always acquire skills, but you can never acquire passion,” he said. “So make your passion a profession.

Dr. Joshi played a crucial role in the establishment of CUNY SPH as an independent graduate school within the CUNY system, where he demonstrated great success in expanding and enhancing the breadth and quality of student-related services and founding the school’s Master of Science program in Population Health Informatics. In his capacity as senior associate dean, Dr. Joshi created a reliable and streamlined system geared towards academic excellence. His relationship with deans, department chairs, faculty, students, and staff have earned him the respect and affection of the CUNY SPH community.
