Student Health and Academic Success: What‚Äôs the Connection? Results from Healthy CUNY Surveys Nick Freudenberg (CUNY School of Public Health) In this talk, Freudenberg will discuss how health and social problems related to mental health, health care access, sexual and reproductive health and food insecurity can undermine academic success of college students. Using findings from several surveys of representative samples of CUNY undergraduates, he will show that about half of CUNY undergraduates report one or more of eight health conditions the literature suggests interfere with academic achievement; a quarter report two or more. He will also identify some of the strengths and weaknesses of CUNY’s response to these health conditions and suggest directions for reducing the burden they impose on our students. The seminar will be held from noon-1:30 pm at the CUNY Graduate Center: 365 5th Avenue Room C197 Coffee & tea will be provided. Please present a photo ID at the security desk to enter the building.
