POSITION: HIV and COVID-19 Adaptations Intern

ORGANIZATION: USAID and Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) 

STAR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) is a project of the Public Health Institute (PHI) supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Global Health (GH) Bureau. Its purpose is twofold: (1) Through individual fellowships, STAR will help strengthen the capacity of diverse American and low-and-middle-income country (LMIC) health professionals at all levels to make innovative contributions to global health (GH); and (2) STAR will create groundbreaking opportunities for both US and LMIC GH academic institutions and other groups, including professional associations, to create systems for open-access knowledge sharing, resulting in effective partnerships. STAR’s individual and institutional participants are contributing to the development of self-sustaining systems and tools that will produce global citizens with the full spectrum of relevant health competencies. STAR is managed by the Public Health Institute and implemented in partnership with Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH).

POSITION: College/Graduate School Intern/Volunteer (Minimum 20 hours a week)

ORGANIZATION: New York City DOHMH – Local Health Department: Children with Special Health Care Needs

Program Description: 

The Children with Special Health Care Needs Program seeks to empower, educate family and communities in the care of children with special health care needs. The program serves children, youth, and young adults within the five boroughs of NYC from birth to age 21 who have health conditions for which they need health insurance and health care services and assistance for complex medical issues. The eligible children have been diagnosed or may have a serious or chronic health condition or disability; physical, developmental/intellectual, or emotional/behavioral condition. The Program is seeking a College/Graduate School Intern who will work with families who have children with special needs and make connections with community service providers to meet their needs.

 Duties (include but not limited to): 

✓ Conduct client interviews to obtain identifying and routine medical information for referral to community services and answer routine questions about the program. 

✓ Discuss confidential family histories and report relevant observations and information to the Senior Program Manager to develop service plan. 

✓ Maintain record of client interview and medical information for reporting. 

✓ Participate in the creation of online marketing and social media strategies across all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc.) 

✓ Assist Senior Program Manager with other duties/tasks and special projects as needed.

POSITION: Major Gifts Intern

Project

The Major Gift Intern will be supporting the administrative activities of the Major Gift Director, Officer, and the activities of the Major Gifts Staff. S/he will learn how an organization approaches and cultivates individuals in order to receive large donations. S/he will also have the opportunity, through working in the office, to learn about MSF’s international programs and the role that MSF-USA plays in the MSF movement. This internship is ideal for anyone considering a career in development (fundraising), and in the administration of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Objective: To assist Major Gifts section of MSF’s Development Team while providing basic knowledge of non-profit fundraising.

Tasks

The Major Gifts Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Help manage major donor events e.g. mail invitations, maintain RSVP list (25%)
  • Assist with large and small mailings (25%)
  • Review and correct donor database records, and possibly assist in conversion from one donor database to another (20%)
  • Attend BBLs, public education events, and staff and department meetings as often as scheduling allows
