A special edition of the Journal of Participatory Research Methods (JPRM) co-edited by CUNY SPH Adjunct Associate Professor J. Robin Moon explores how communities and research institutions can address health inequity through meaningful partnerships.

The special issue contains 15 articles addressing the challenges and successes involved in prioritizing meaningful community collaboration and shared leadership between those in research and community settings. The articles describe a variety of participatory research methods used to address structural issues such as housing equity or barriers to health care, for an array of communities, including immigrant or minoritized communities, women, children, youth, and disinvested urban and rural communities.

“We’re delighted to present this special issue, which is a deep-dive into the complexities of interdisciplinary community-engaged research and the continuous development and refinement of its methods,” says Dr. Moon.

The issue includes a study led by Professor Diana Romero on the Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC) project, which was designed to examine healthcare segregation in New York City.

JPRM is housed at the University of Cincinnati and is a transdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal focused on the methods, techniques, tools, and strategies of participatory research.
