Ilias Kavouras holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Crete in Greece. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and environmental health coordinator for the French Children Study. Prior to joining CUNY SPH, he was a faculty at the Desert Research Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and graduate program director at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
His research focuses on health effects of air pollution and their coupling with climate change. New initiatives include the safety of nano-enabled consumer products and electronic cigarettes. He has received support from the US Environmental Protection Agency, National Science Foundation, Department of Education and state public health agencies. He has co-authored over 75 papers.
