Ellen Wiewel, a graduate from the DPH program, published the first of her dissertation papers, with professors Luisa Borrell, Heidi Jones and Andrew Maroko. In this paper, Dr. Wiewel and colleagues investigated whether neighborhood characteristics were associated with HIV viral suppression and maintenance of suppression among people living with HIV/AIDs in New York City, using surveillance data. The authors found no associations between neighborhood characteristics and time to initial viral suppression, however high neighborhood poverty was associated with worse outcomes in terms of maintaining HIV viral suppression.
