Counseling and Wellness Team Bios

Cesar Leon, PhD 

Dr. Cesar León is a NYS licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Fordham University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He has extensive experience working in college, hospital, and community settings and provides personalized therapy rooted in his training in psychodynamic, interpersonal-relational, and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approaches.

As a clinician, Dr. León specializes in insight-oriented, person-centered therapy and works with students on various issues including anxiety, depression, identity exploration, life transitions, academic stress, family and relationships, and career concerns. Grounded in a deep respect for diverse experiences, he explores multicultural and intersectional perspectives while considering the broader social context that shapes each person’s unique experience.

Dr. León is committed to advancing Counseling and Wellness Services as an essential hybrid support service that provides high-quality, culturally responsive, and accessible mental health care and wellness outreach for all CUNY SPH students, while also offering responsive consultation and education for staff and faculty.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. León enjoys learning, exercising, and spending time with loved ones.

Sherry Adams, LCSW

Sherry Adams, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker and proud graduate of CUNY (CCNY) and Stony Brook (SUNY). With a strong background in supporting students in higher education, she takes a trauma-responsive approach rooted in cultural humility, working collaboratively to identify and build on each student’s strengths. Highly empathic and attuned to individual needs, Sherry tailors her approach to honor each client’s unique timeline for growth and action.

Sherry has extensive experience providing care to diverse populations and is deeply committed to LGBTQI+ affirming practices. At CUNY SPH, she has actively contributed to making the school a more inclusive and affirming space for LGBTQI+ students.

Outside of her work, Sherry enjoys expressing her creativity through photography and songwriting.

Teresa Rodriguez

Teresa Rodriguez is a second year Master’s-level student in clinical social work at Hunter College. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College, where she double majored in psychology and anthropology. Teresa has experience as a research assistant and in intensive case management, working in various settings to support student development. She is committed to providing trauma-informed, strength-based care, helping students build resilience and feel empowered in their journey.

Teresa previously contributed to the Foster Youth Success Initiative (CUNY FYCSI) and is currently a Social Work Intern at CUNY SPH Counseling and Wellness Services for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Outside of her professional interests, Teresa enjoys hiking with her dog, reading, staying active through sports, and expressing her creativity through painting.
