Deborah Levine appointed to New York State Cannabis Education Advisory Panel

Deborah Levine

Harlem Health Initiative Community Outreach Program Director Deborah Levine, LCSW, is one of 15 experts selected to serve on New York State’s new Cannabis Education Advisory Panel (CEAP).

In this role, Levine will draw on her public health and social work practice, as well as a deep commitment to health literacy, to help ensure cannabis education resources are scientifically accurate, culturally responsive, and truly meet the needs of youth, families, and communities across New York State.

Levine joins a multidisciplinary group of experts who will advise the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) on the development and review of youth-focused cannabis education materials, with an emphasis on accuracy, equity, and community trust in public health messaging.

The panel will convene regularly over the next year to provide expert guidance on messaging, tone, cultural relevance, and scientific integrity as OCM develops new public health campaigns and expands educational resources for young people and families. Members were selected through a process that prioritized diverse professional backgrounds, lived experiences, and geographic representation, reflecting New York’s commitment to a youth education framework grounded in evidence, inclusivity, and community trust.

“I’m honored to serve as one of the inaugural members of New York State’s Cannabis Education Advisory Panel,” says Levine. “Through my role with the Harlem Health Initiative at CUNY SPH, I bring a public health and social work practice lens grounded in health literacy and community engagement to support evidence-informed, culturally responsive cannabis education for youth, families, and communities across New York State. I look forward to contributing to this important statewide public health effort.”
