Mayor Eric Adams has appointed Dr. Danielle Greene, CUNY SPH Executive Director of State and Local Public Health Initiatives, to New York City’s new Gender and Racial Equity Advisory Board.

The board was created by Local Law 30 of 2021 and is housed within the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness (CHECW). It brings together experts with storied experience in health inequities and health care systems to advise the mayor and city council on issues related to gender and racial equity in the provision of covered health care and hospital services that affect staff and patients.

The Advisory Board’s charge also includes studying racial and gender inequities in health care including clinical protocols and employment practices, evaluating social and structural factors that contribute to those gaps, and recommending concrete measures to eliminate disparities. Its work will span issues such as inequitable employment decisions in health care settings, bias in patient care, protocols to address inequity, and strategies to raise awareness of both the problems and solutions at local, state, and national levels.

Dr. Greene was chosen for this appointment based on her years of experience in government settings, knowledge of health care systems, and work examining the social factors that impact women and marginalized communities.

“I am thrilled by the opportunity to serve on this important board,” says Dr. Greene. “I look forward to collaborating with the mayor’s office, board colleagues, and the health department to remove gender and race related barriers to receiving high‑quality care and increase focus on issues of concern related to gender and race for both patients and staff.”
