Assistant Professor Mustafa Hussein was selected for a CUNY Faculty Fellowship Publication Program for a large project that probes policy-related sources of immigrant health resilience in the face of adverse social and economic conditions.
Using rich NYC and national data, Hussein and colleagues will disentangle the contributions of four canonical sources of welfare to immigrants’ health and mortality at times of incident social and economic shocks: family/neighborhood support, non-profit/community-based organizations, labor market/employment-based benefits, and government safety-net benefits. These analyses promise deeper understanding of immigrants’ enduring health advantage and timely insights into actionable pathways towards more equitable health for all.
“I am excited about these prospects and look forward to participating in the program and representing CUNY SPH,” says Hussein.
