With mixed emotions, we announce the retirement of our esteemed colleague Dr. Michele Kiely, effective August 15, 2025.
Serving as Associate Dean of Research since 2014, Dr. Kiely helped establish the school as a dynamic research hub, providing leadership and oversight for the school’s research mission, and working to foster a thriving research environment. She developed and supported a robust research infrastructure and connecting faculty with research funding opportunities.
Dr. Kiely is an established researcher in the field of health disparities, with a special interest in reduction of infant mortality and of intimate partner violence. Her experience reflects a broad range of pediatric and obstetric health issues—including disabilities in children, health care access and utilization in mothers and children; and investigations of a randomized controlled trial to improve risk factors, thus improving pregnancy outcomes among high-risk minority women.
She has a broad background including working at the National Institutes of Health (Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development), the Office of the United States Surgeon General, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau/Health Resources and Services Administration, as well as Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the State of New York.
“We are grateful for Dr. Kiely’s many years of dedicated service to our school,” says Dean Ayman El-Mohandes. “Through her leadership and guidance, she has played a fundamental role in the establishment of our school as the research powerhouse it is today. We wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life.”
