At the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) Annual Conference on Saturday, Professor Christian Grov was named as a Fellow for his outstanding contribution to the scientific study of sex.
SSSS is the oldest professional society devoted to advancing knowledge of sexuality and communicating scientifically based sexuality research and scholarship to professionals, policy makers and the general public. Dr. Grov has been a member for two decades.
A SSSS member can be named a Fellow based on unusual and outstanding contribution to the scientific study of sex, defined as formal investigation designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge. Up to two fellows are named per year.
Dr. Grov’s research centers on the health of sexual and gender minority individuals, and has explored substance use, sexual compulsivity, venues where individuals meet sex partners, sex work, HIV/STI prevention, and HIV care.
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this award,” says Grov. “It would not have been possible were it not for the fantastic collaborators I have had the opportunity to work with over my career. I share this honor with them.”
At the same event, Dr. Nicholas Grosskopf, a CUNY SPH-Affiliated faculty member from York College, was presented with an award for distinguished service to the society. Dr. Grosskopf has served as chairperson of the SSSS Continuing Education Committee since 2019. His scholarly interests include the intersection of health and technology, health equity/health policy implications for gender and sexual minority individuals as well as human participant research ethics.
