The CUNY SPH Foundation is pleased to welcome alumna Lauren Rauh (MPH 2020) as the inaugural director of programs. In this role, Lauren will play a critical internal and client-facing role and partner with the foundation’s leadership, program officers, and board of directors to support, refine and grow the foundation’s strategic approach and priorities.

Lauren joins the CUNY SPH Foundation at a crucial moment in the organization’s history. Over the first five years, the organization has been successful in the development and implementation of programming to benefit three communities: CUNY SPH students, the 500,000 current and continuous learners within the greater CUNY system and the Harlem community where CUNY SPH is located. As the foundation continues to mature, Lauren will help meet goals for program impact and innovation, promote the foundation’s role as a leader in public health and increase the number of people impacted by its work.

“Having had the chance to work with Lauren in her prior roles, I know that the CUNY SPH Foundation has secured a top-notch public health professional to lead its programming,” says CUNY SPH Distinguished Scholar Lyndon Haviland, chair of the Foundation’s board of directors.

“The communities we serve and the city-at-large look to our school and Foundation to provide support. Our new Director of Programs will play a pivotal role in the growth of our organization in the years to come.”

Prior to this role, Lauren worked within CUNY SPH in various positions. First, as a research coordinator in the Community Health and Social Sciences Department while completing her degree, then as the senior program manager for CONVINCE (COVID-19 New Vaccine Information, Communication and Engagement), an initiative aimed at understanding public attitudes and access barriers for COVID-19 vaccination. Lauren managed a portfolio of mixed-methods research and programmatic activities and oversaw the evolution of this work into a series of community-engaged projects known as the Vaccine Literacy Campaign (VLC). As the Program Director for the VLC, Lauren strategized a pivot of program deliverables towards building widespread education and awareness about all recommended routine vaccines in partnership with community organizations.

“I could not be more pleased to see an alumna take on such an important role at our school’s foundation,” says CUNY SPH Dean Ayman El-Mohandes. “Her body of work to date has shown an unwavering commitment to the school’s mission to promote equitable public health for all and the skills to manage the diversity of programs funded through our foundation.”

“Lauren’s depth of knowledge of our school, foundation and public health issues of the day make her an incredible addition to the team,” says CUNY SPH Foundation Executive Director Adam Doyno. “There isn’t anyone better equipped to support our students and to lead our portfolio of community engagement efforts. Lauren can walk the talk—this is what our students and community partners need.”

Lauren earned her MPH in Community Health Education in 2020 from CUNY SPH and received the Dean’s Merit Award for Commitment. She received her BA cum laude in Anthropology from Smith College.
