Associate Professor Karen Flórez was awarded a CUNY Planning Grant to study social networks and nutrition among immigrants in New York City.
The $20,000 grant will allow Flórez and colleagues to strengthen partnerships with different stakeholders and map out several projects that are innovative, complementary, and contributory to the theme of social networks and nutrition among immigrants in New York City.
“Immigrant Latino health is replete with paradoxes that are not well understood, especially in regard to diet-related diseases,” says Flórez. “Our previous work suggests both individual processes like acculturation to less traditional diets and interpersonal processes like social networks matter.”
