CUNY SPH Office of Admissions seeks a part-time College Assistant to provide clerical and customer support for maximum of 10 hours per week, must be willing to work some evenings. The College Assistant reports to the Director of Admissions and will be responsible for:
- Representing the school at recruitment events
- Meeting with prospective students to answer questions about the application process and the school
- Answering/transferring incoming calls
- Providing assistance to Admissions Office staff
- General office duties including photocopying, responding to inquiries, updating and maintaining recruitment materials

Qualification Requirements - Current CUNY SPH graduate student in an MPH or MS program.

POSITION: College Assistant (part-time, hybrid)
ORGANIZATION: CUNY Graduate Center – Student Disability Services
Student Disability Services at the CUNY Graduate Center is seeking a College Assistant for 20 hours/week; between 8am and 6pm, Monday-Friday. Hourly Rate: $19.50/hour
This position supports the provision of legally mandated services to students with disabilities who require academic program modifications and accommodations and/or auxiliary aids and services for nondiscriminatory access to their Graduate Center academic and related programs, services, and activities. The position reports to the Manager of Student Disability Services, and includes the following specific responsibilities and duties:
- 1. Assists with the monitoring of assistive technology user areas and with managing loans of adaptive equipment to students; liaising with Information Technology to maintain and trouble-shoot assistive technology computer installations;
- 2. Assists in training staff in the use of assistive software (training the trainers), and, along with the SDS staff, provides orientation to student clients using new assistive technology; [Prior experience with assistance software is not required; should be comfortable learning software and equipment independently during work hours from tutorials, webinars, and workshops.]
- 3. Attends training sessions periodically provided by CUNY Assistive Technology Services (CATS);
- 4. Assists with coordination of examination accommodations, scheduling proctors, and serving as a proctor, as needed;
- 5. Assists with obtaining alternative format from publishers or production of alternative format by SDS staff for students with print disabilities, which necessitates clear communication with students, faculty, publishers, and staff;
- 6. Assists with the scheduling and deployment by SDS staff of ergonomic furniture and assistive devices for students with disabilities in their in-person classes, meetings, the library, and other degree-relevant activities at the Graduate Center;
- 7. Assists with coordination of readers and scribes; scheduling reader, scribe, and library services provided by SDS or library staff; and directly providing services to students with disabilities, as needed;
- 8. Assists with producing and disseminating guidelines, instructions, and other procedural / information documents to staff and students with disabilities, as well as updating the SDS website, as needed;
- 9. Assists with the scheduling of sign-language interpreting and real-time captioning (CART) services, as needed;
- 10. Assists with liaising with student organizations and student government representatives of students with disabilities and allies;
- 11. Other related tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.

POSITION: G-RISE Program Coordinator (part-time)
ORGANIZATION: CUNY-CCNY and Memorial Sloan Kettering (CCYN-MSK)
The Graduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (G-RISE) at The City College of New York is a U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded program that seeks to diversify the pool of students who complete a Ph.D. degree in biomedical research fields and to prepare them for careers in the biomedical research workforce. This grant-funded program has an expected duration of 5 years beginning 5/01/20, with the potential for renewal.
G-RISE is recruiting candidates for a part-time Program Coordinator. Reporting to the Program Director and co-Program Director, the Program Coordinator’s primary tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Administering the NIH G-RISE grant project, including on-boarding of personnel; processing of payments for personnel, stipends, research supplies, and professional travel; tracking of expenditures; assisting with financial planning;
- Preparing and managing deadlines for periodic programmatic reports to the NIH (RPPR) and institutional officials;
- Soliciting, coordinating and processing applications from prospective G-RISE trainees
- Coordinating in-person and virtual meetings, research conferences and seminars, including audiovisual needs; assisting participants with travel arrangements; scheduling face-to-face and videoconference meetings and conference calls; ordering refreshments; planning agendas
- Serving as liaison with G-RISE trainees, faculty mentors, Advisory Committees, research collaborators and Program Officials at CUNY and the NIH;
- Serving as liaison with fiscal administrators on budgetary and administrative matters, including CCNY Grants Office, CUNY Research Foundation, and NIH;
- Collecting and maintaining records on student recruitment, retention, academic performance, teaching experience, research progress, professional development, graduation, and job placement; liaising with the Project Evaluator.
Other Duties
- Assisting with the preparation of external grant applications, supplements, and renewals;
- Maintaining websites and updating brochures for G-RISE;
- Maintaining G-RISE office area;
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Director and co-Director
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business or technical field, is required; related advanced degrees are welcome. Prior administrative experience supporting a senior-level executive, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment, is highly recommended.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Knowledge of RFCUNY and/or CUNY purchasing and personnel procedures;
- Proficiency with standard office software programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint; Adobe Acrobat for PDF creation and editing; InDesign; WordPress; e-mail distribution lists; Dropbox; Slack; and Internet usage;
- Strong organizational ability, attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work well with faculty, high-level administrators, students and co-workers; prioritizing tasks under pressure of deadlines;

POSITION: VIA Task 4 (part time or full time)

The position is with Columbia University with scientific and financial support from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
Description: This position will support activities on funded research grants aimed at performing a systematic assessment of the health-related economic costs attributable to climate-sensitive events in New York City (NYC), with a special emphasis on equity and climate justice. This policy-relevant research task, which aims to better understand and quantify the economic valuation of climate-sensitive health outcomes, is part of an interdisciplinary, inter-institute project to understand the impacts of climate change on NYC.
The output of this project is to inform NYC about climate vulnerability and impact in order for the city to develop equitable adaptation strategies to mitigate potential climate harms. The task combines expertise in epidemiology, demography, statistical modeling, and economic valuation. The ideal candidate would have expertise in at least two of those areas, with a strong interest in collaborating on the others. Experience with climate change and health impacts assessments, health, environmental, and economic datasets, or innovative dataset linkage methods would be additional pluses. An interdisciplinary interest and desire to have a policy impact is essential.
Skills: Quantitative, computing skills needed (either STATA, R, SAS). Interest in climate and health. PhD (or on the way to one) in epi, related public health or social science. Work should start ASAP, can be part-time or full-time.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellow-MSH
ORGANIZATION: Icahn School of Medicine at The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS)
The successful candidate will work day-to-day with Dr. Xiaotao Zhang, an assistant professor at the Institute for Translational Epidemiology & Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Xiaotao Zhang’s Lab is looking for a postdoc fellow to work on pilot microbiome projects (e.g., shotgun metagenomics and metabolomics) projects within focus on the complex interplay between dietary intake, the gut microbiome, and chronic gastrointestinal (GI) diseases (Such as IBD and NAFLD/NASH) /GI cancer (such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal cancer), while gaining experience in computational methods and nutritional epidemiology.
Primary Responsibilities
The mentoring and training will be under the direction of Dr. Xiaotao Zhang, Assistant Professor. Under his leadership, the post-doctoral fellow will also collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including public health experts, medical doctors, nutritionists, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians/modelers.
- Implement and apply quantitative methods for analyzing epidemiologic and multi-omics data.
- Intellectually lead and develop research findings into peer-reviewed manuscripts
- Present and communicate results to group members, collaborators, and other local, national, and international scientific audiences.
- Assist with grant proposal writing and submission.
- Assist with other research-related tasks as needed.
Requirements:
- A successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be self-motivated, independent and comfortable seeking and obtaining feedback from a large, multidisciplinary team of near-peers and colleagues
- The ability to work well in a team and to manage numerous research studies simultaneously are required
- Applicants with or soon to receive a doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, public health, or another analytical, related field are encouraged to apply. Experience analyzing microbiome data is a plus, but not required.
- Candidate should have a record of original first-authored manuscripts in one or more of these areas, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, strong quantitative/analytical research skills, experience using statistical software such as SAS, Python and R or other computer languages for both data management and analysis, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team with collaborators.
The salary range for the role is $58,661.00 – $60,788.00 Annually.

POSITION: Rashi Fein Internship in Health Policy

The Rashi Fein Internship in Health Policy seeks outstanding graduate students interested in promoting equitable access for all Americans to high quality, affordable, cost-effective health care. Students pursuing courses of study in health policy, health economics, public policy, social policy, or related subjects are urged to apply for this 12-week summer semester internship in Washington, DC*. Interns are paid at least $15/hr based on a 35 to 40-hour work week.
Eligibility of all internship programs requires applicants to be currently enrolled in a college or university at the start of the internship cycle. Depending on availability, placement opportunities for Fein interns may include assignments in the legislative, administrative or regulatory agencies of the federal government or private, not-for-profit organizations with interests in health policy. All are stakeholders, to varying degrees in, and with differing perspectives on, the health policy process.
