POSITION: Data Analyst
ORGANIZATION: The Blavatnik Family Women’s Health Research Institute (BFWHRI)

The Blavatnik Family Women’s Health Research Institute (BFWHRI) aims to transform women’s health through advancing science, promoting breakthroughs in clinical care, and training the next generation of scientific leaders in women’s health. The Institute’s areas of focus include ovarian and endometrial cancers, cardiovascular disease, inequalities in maternal health, postpartum cardiometabolic health, postpartum depression, and the impact of COVID-19 on women’s health. Cross-cutting themes include quality of care, health equity, and health care value.  

Position Summary/Overview:
The Blavatnik Family Women’s Health Research Institute and the Department of Population Health Science and Policy is seeking a Data Analyst to work directly with Drs. Yan Li and Teresa Janevic on projects related to maternal health equity, pregnancy as a window for lifecourse cardiometabolic disease, cardiovascular disease prevention, economic evaluation, and health services research. The Data Analyst will be an integral member of our research teams, and will collaborate with study investigators (including epidemiologists, health economists, OBGYNs, etc), and other research team members on projects related to maternal health disparities and inequities. 

The ideal candidate would be: 1) highly motivated and responsible; 2) an effective communicator; 3) extremely organized and detail-oriented; 4) someone who combines initiative with responsiveness to supervision; 5) someone comfortable asking questions and eager to learn; and, 6) flexible and able to shift gears as new tasks present themselves. Opportunities exist for mentorship and professional development for Data Analysts. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  •       Plan, organize, conduct, and communicate research studies within the overall scope of cardiovascular disease prevention, economic evaluation, maternal health disparities, and health equity. 
  •       Develop required research skills in health services research and quantitative analysis 
  •       Engage in data management, data analysis, and manuscript writing 
  •       Guide and mentor research interns  
  •       Communicate and work with internal and external collaborators.  

Qualifications: 

  •       Strong quantitative skills and proficiency working with data analysis tools such as STATA, SAS, and R.  
  •       Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  •       Highly motivated and interested in developing a research career. 
  •       Able to work independently in a multidisciplinary setting. 
  •       Experience working with systems science modelling methodologies such as system dynamics and agent based modelling is not required but a plus.  

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in one of the following domains: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Social Work, or related academic area. 

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Physical demands are those of a professional office environment.
