POSITION TITLE: Legacy Intern

PROJECT NAME: Supporting participant engagement in public health and social services

Organization Description

Public Health Solutions provide a range of services to vulnerable New Yorkers across the five boroughs. We have long observed that lack of coordination between social services create confusion and increase of barriers to access, particularly for vulnerable New Yorkers. We are committed to implement a Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) strategy where clients are supported for the broad range of needs and priorities they have. From using SDOH screening tools to simply asking “What matters to you most now”, we seek to engage potential and existing recipients of services in conversations that can better define what best meet their needs. Our legacy internship partnership with the CUNY’s School of Public Health seek to support PHS in addressing this challenge. In 2020, the inaugural intern conducted a landscape analysis of tools currently used at PHS and led interviews with multiple PHS staff to elicit what the gaps were and formulate recommendations about addressing these gaps. In 2021, we are turning our attention to PHS clients to gain a better understanding of their priorities with regards to services coordination.

Position Description

The main activities of this internship will be focused on strengthening our understanding of client’s perceptions and priorities regarding coordination of SDOH services.

  1. Brief desk literature review of appropriate best practices and client engagement strategies regarding coordination of social services aimed at addressing SDOH needs
  2. Analyze data from existing client satisfaction survey and present results and key lessons learned
  3. In collaboration with the Supervisor, develop and pilot a client-focused survey to:
    • Deepen our understanding of client’s goals and expectations regarding service coordination
    • Elicit information about social services coordination, what is needed, and what success is
  4. Conduct the survey
  5. Analyze and present results and recommendations.

In addition, the selected intern may be asked to actively collaborate on another related projects focused on client engagement and participation in the definition of quality. This may include 

6) Participating in other survey data collection and data analysis as requested

7) Conducting additional literature review

Student responsibilities and activities: With guidance and support from the supervisors, the student will be in charge of executing the work plan laid out in the activities above.

Skills & Qualifications

This practicum is ideal for students interested in translational or implementation science and passionate about equity and community engagement. Project management skills and interest in simple survey information with a mix of qualitative and quantitative elements. Ability to establish an excellent rapport with colleagues. Spanish preferred, but not required. Previous experience (even brief) working in social services preferred, but not required.

Final product(s)/deliverables: Survey results presentation and recommendation.

Position Description

BronxWorks is hiring a volunteer Research Assistant for its Bronx PEACH Program

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the research assistant will provide administrative support to program manager and program staff in the administrative needs of the program and the team. Furthermore, candidate will be responsible for research duties including obtaining consent form and conducting assessment from eligible clients.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the ideal candidate will be responsible to perform a variety of programmatic, administrative, and clerical tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to articulate the mission, objectives of the PEACH program, (Promote Earned Income Tax Credit to Support At-Risk Children)
  • Answer phones and field all calls, delegate questions and issues to the necessary preparers or management.
  • Supporting the outreach team. 
  • Provide customer follow-up and other general office administrative duties as assigned.
  • Schedule appointments for clients
  • Assist PEACH clients as needed. 
  • Assist Program Manager in the reconciliation of management and grant reports on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with all database entry and report management.
  • Provide team with support obtaining consents and conducting assessments.
  • Help create and update client files. 
  • Provide general support to visitors and act as point of contact for program clients.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Graduate level – Public health student
  • A minimum of one to two years’ of prior work experience in programmatic, administrative and clerical tasks. Research based knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
  • Engaging “consumer service” personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
  • Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
  • Flexible schedule available, must work 18 hours a week. Some Saturdays required.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required. 
  • CITI certificates required- Human Subject Research and Conflict of Interest
  • IRS Volunteer Standard of Conduct Certification required.

Position Description

The Marketing and Communications Fellow will gain a deep understanding of nonprofit communications in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. They will work directly with a five-person team, and indirectly with our donor and philanthropic initiatives staff. The Fellow will take on a range of projects. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to learn about promising work being done by leading nonprofits across a wide range of issues facing NYC and beyond.

The work of the fellow will include:

  • Writing press releases, print, and online stories about our grantees and other initiatives
  • Producing social media content for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Conducting research related to marketing and communications
  • Interviewing grantees and donors over the phone and in person when possible.

Qualifications and additional information

FELLOWSHIP ELIGIBILITY AND DETAILS:

  • The fellowship will start September 1, 2021 and end in May of 2022. This is a temporary and time-limited Fellowship. Fellows must commit to the entire period.
  • Applicants must be enrolled full- or part-time in a graduate program throughout the fellowship.
  • Applicants must have existing authorization to work in the United States.
  • Fellows will work 15-20 hours per week September 2021 through May 2022.
  • The fellowship pays $21 an hour (no fringe benefits).
  • Fellows’ field of graduate study must match an aspect of the Fellowship.
  • Fellowships are intended as learning experiences to complement Fellows’ graduate study.
  • This is not an entry-level position at The Trust, nor intended to lead to one.
  • While the Fellowship is currently remote, this is subject to change. The New York Community Trust follows Federal, State, and Local requirements regarding COVID-19 and other airborne diseases. 

REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Marketing and Communications Fellow will be part of an organizational-wide effort to share and publicize The Trust’s work. Candidates should have clear and accurate writing skills, strong proofreading and research skills, good attention to details and strong organizational skills, ability to work both on a team and independently; and knowledge of New York City. The fellow should have an interest in philanthropy and the nonprofit world.

Bonus points if you have proficiency in relevant tools like HootSuite.

Frontline Impact Project (FIP) is a matchmaking platform to direct in-kind donations of quality-of-life goods, including food, beverages and personal care items, to frontline workers. Simply put, we connect companies who have products to donate with frontline organizations in need.

The program launched in partnership with The KIND Foundation in April of 2020 to support the healthcare heroes on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has since expanded to support those on the frontlines of other domestic emergencies and natural disasters as well as election workers. To date, more than 80 companies have joined forces with KIND to donate over 6 million products through the platform.

Position Description

Reporting into FIP’s Program Manager, this is an invaluable opportunity for an Intern to play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the project. Responsibilities will include:

Operations/Research:

  • Verifying the accuracy of information submitted by frontline institutions.
  •  Assisting in database management (Airtable), ensuring that data is accurate and current. 
  • Evaluating and matching product requests compared to supply.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of an outreach plan to source new frontline institutions in need of product donations.
  • Researching trends in disaster response and sharing with the broader team, as needed.

Marketing/Communications

  • Supporting social media efforts for FIP.
  • Collecting photos and other storytelling content from product donors and recipients. 
  • Support the development of content strategy for @frontlineimpact social media channels and work with communications director to populate the channels and manage the community 
  • Researching prospective product donors for Frontline Impact Project

In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, GLSEN has quickly pivoted all of our work on-line, sustaining the relationships, community, and core sense of shared purpose that is the foundation of our power and track record of success.

Position Description

GLSEN is offering a paid Summer Research Fellowship for graduate students or recent graduates of a Masters or Doctoral program. The Research Fellow will support the GLSEN Research Institute in its research on LGBTQ+ issues in K-12 education, and will:

  • Gain experience conducting research for advocacy purposes;
  • Develop their skills in applied research; and
  • Increase their knowledge about LGBTQ+ education/youth issues.

The Fellow will be given specific opportunities to assist other researchers at the Institute with data collection, analysis, and reporting of large, national studies of LGBTQ+ youth and network with other scholars working in both academic and non-academic settings.

Responsibilities & Activities:

The Research Fellow will assist the GLSEN Research Institute with GLSEN’s primary research related to LGBTQ+ issues in K-12 education, predominantly by assisting in survey outreach and data collection for the 2021 National School Climate Survey, GLSEN’s biennial national survey of LGBTQ+ students.

Working with other members of the GLSEN Research Institute team, the Fellow will:

  • Monitor survey data collection and provide input on outreach strategies to communities from various backgrounds, including communities of color, in order to ensure a diverse and representative sample of LGBTQ+ students.
  • Cultivate and maintain new and existing relationships with national, state, and local partner organizations for survey outreach.
  • Help with writing, editing, and proofreading research reports, briefs, and other presentation materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Review literature and manage upkeep of research literature database of current social science literature regarding LGBTQ+ issues in education.
  • During the Fellowship, the Fellow will:
  • Attend regular Research team meetings and receive 1:1 supervision from a Senior Research Associate.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in organizational-wide professional development opportunities regarding racial, gender, and disability equity initiatives.
  • Attend a specific event/conference and receive an annual membership to social science research association (e.g., American Educational Research Association, Society for Research on Adolescence, American Public Health Association).
  • Have the opportunity to use GLSEN datasets (of LGBTQ+ students, secondary teachers, school mental health professionals, pre-service teachers, etc.) to prepare a manuscript for scholarly publication, with support and guidance from GLSEN researchers.

Skills & Qualifications

Individuals who are currently enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s or Doctoral program in the social sciences, such as Education, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, or related field.

Individuals with a strong passion for mission-driven research regarding LGBTQ+ youth and K-12 schools.

Prerequisites/Skills:

  • Interest in using research to further social justice
  • Experience with quantitative research required; familiarity with qualitative research a plus
  • Working knowledge of SPSS data analysis program
  • Background, familiarity, or strong interest in LGBTQ+ issues in education or LGBTQ+ youth issues
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Interest in working in applied research at a non-profit organization
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task

Position Description

WhyHunger is seeking a creative, motivated and committed intern to assist the Communications Department in implementing strategic communications initiatives at a thriving global non-profit. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Intern will gain hands on experience in implementing strategic communications, including online marketing, social media, media relations, writing and editing articles, outreach campaigns and general communications projects.   • Draft and edit creative content including articles, graphics and promotional materials for use across various platforms
