The Equity and Social Justice Manager/Advisor will develop, lead and oversee the implementation of agency initiatives to promote diversity, inclusion, cultural humility, equity, and social justice. CAI, a training, technical assistance and research-to-practice nonprofit organization, is seeking a highly motivated professional for the full-time position of Technical Assistance Coach to work with CAI’s Technical Assistance Provider – innovation network (TAP-in). The position is based in CAI’s NYC Office.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The TAP-in provides cross-cutting and tailored technical assistance (TA) to 47 jurisdictions (i.e., health departments) across the nation who are funded by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) to design and implement locally tailored plans to improve access to treatment, foster retention in services, and achieve durable viral suppression for people living with HIV as part of the nation’s plan to End the HIV Epidemic (EHE).  The TA Coach reports to the TAP-in Regional TA Lead and, using a practice facilitation coaching model and phased implementation approach, is responsible for working with a team of experts to provide and/or coordinate the provision of tailored TA for up to 8 RWHAP jurisdictions to foster strengthening and implementation of their local EHE plans.  Key activities are summarized below.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):

  • Establish mutually agreed upon jurisdiction-specific TA plan and update annually
  • Identify, engage, and coordinate partner resources to support implementation of the TA plan
  • Provide pro-active and regularly scheduled coaching, grounded in process and outcome data, to foster implementation of the agreed upon TA plan
  • In collaboration with TAP-in Research and Evaluation Lead and TAP-in partners, support jurisdictions in establishing data dashboards and systems to collect and use data to monitor progress in implementation and impact of jurisdiction EHE plans
  • Plan and convene annual site visits with each assigned jurisdiction
  • Document all TA encounters and activities and participate, as needed, in reporting
  • Administer formal mid-course (Year 3) assessment of assigned jurisdictions to assess progress in implementation of EHE plan and adapt TAP plan and approach based on findings
  • On a continuous basis, share with CAI TAP-in leadership and the Regional TA Leads key observations from their communications and activities with the jurisdictions to inform the TAP-IN CQI process
  • In addition to providing direct TA, the TA Coach will facilitate linkage to jurisdictions to:
    • Existing resources to support implementation of plans
    • Expert TAP-in TA pool to provide individualized and specialized TA
    • Opportunities to participate in TAP-in learning communities, webinars, peer-to-peer support, and to TAP-in resources
    • Opportunities to disseminate their successes and lessons learned broadly
  • Working with the TA providers/partners, other TAP-in staff and jurisdictions, support a feedback process on the provision of TA
  • Participate in development/training opportunities to build capacity to implement the practice facilitation coaching model
  • Other duties as necessary/assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS:

This is an advanced level position that requires expertise in HIV and/or mental health, as well as experience providing technical assistance in a public health arena. Summary of requirements is provided below.

  • Master’s degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in delivering coaching to adults in a professional environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing technical assistance in a public health arena
  • Strong training and presentation skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility in approach to training and technical assistance techniques
  • Experience and/or knowledgeable about coaching staff to achieve performance improvement

We particularly seek applications from social and behavioral scientists teaching and conducting research in public health promotion and practice in areas such as health equity, social determinants of health, structural racism, substance use, mental health, food systems and climate change. Field staff will be primarily responsible for recruiting, training, and driving adoption of a client centered technology application designed to make emergency food service more accessible, dignified and efficient. Field staff will be responsible for guiding pantries to adoption through mix of virtual and onsite trainings and coaching sessions to increase registration and first service within two months of initial contact.  

Primary Purpose and Overall Objective of the Job: Field staff will be primarily responsible for establishing relationships with food pantry staff and volunteers and driving the adoption of an easy to use technology application designed to make emergency food service more efficient and dignified for people using food pantries. The technology will be deployed at additional food pantries across NYC during spring 2021.

Description of services to be provided:

Field staff will be responsible for guiding pantries to adopting new technology through a mixture of virtual and onsite trainings and coaching sessions. Field staff will be the direct link from the office-based/remote staff to the pantries. Field staff will need to communicate on-the-ground perspectives and challenges to the office staff while communicating technical information and how-to strategies to staff and volunteers in the field. Field staff work will enable us to reach an additional 60+ pantries, disseminate best practices more quickly, and reach a critical mass of pantries that help will drive city-wide adoption of the technology. 

Field staff shall undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain a rollout work plan for their pantry cohort, updating pantry progress daily while in the field through the use of mobile technology
  • Report formally on a rolling basis to the Plentiful team about progress and any obstacles to successful implementation
  • Build capacity at pantries in their cohort to use the technology by:
    • Developing a deep understanding of the applications interface, newest features, and the benefits for the pantries who use the technology
    • Supporting pantries to register and create accounts on the platform
    • Working with pantry staff and volunteers to obtain Wi-Fi, hardware, and printed materials and other resources
    • Working with clients to register on the technology to accelerate check-in at their pantries of choice
    • Providing virtual and/or on-site capacity building and technical assistance during rollout
  • Monitor and communicate with cohort pantries to ensure their ongoing success

Essential Skills and Requirements

  1. Understanding the socio-economic factors that contribute to hunger and the multi-cultural, multi-lingual environment at pantry distribution points is strongly desired.
  2. Light technology skills (using apps in the field for reporting, training computer/smartphone novices to use smart phone/web apps) are required. Deep technology skills are not required, but a passion for innovative social technology is a must.
  3. Knowledgeable about community-based organizations, community nutrition, food safety, food service, and hunger as they relate to New York City residents. Have professional or academic experience in any of the above topics.  
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  5. Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week from April 2021 to June 2021
  6. Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.

WorkWell NYC seek a Partner Program Assistant to provide programmatic support for a variety of worksite wellness initiatives that aim to improve the health and well-being of City of New York employees.

WorkWell NYC is a worksite wellness initiative that focuses on improving the health and productivity of the City’s workforce of over 370,000 employees. WorkWell NYC’s core mission is to create workplaces that engage and empower employees to live healthy, active lifestyles and to provide health and well-being services, programs, and resources for employees and their families. To achieve this goal, WorkWell NYC develops and implements programming across 4 key areas: healthy eating, physical activity, mental well-being, and preventative health behaviors. Some of WorkWell NYC’s current initiatives include physical activity challenges, a worksite flu shot campaign, and chronic disease prevention programming.

The WorkWell NYC Partner Program Assistant will support program development and implementation, create promotional materials, and track program outcomes. The position will be based at the partner site, Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), with which WorkWell NYC works closely.
