Congratulations, Dr. Gabriela Betancourt!

Gabriela Betancourt

On November 6, Gabriela Betancourt, a student in the Epidemiology track, successfully defended her dissertation, “The Associations of Out-of-Home Placement and Penile-Vaginal Intercourse, Age of Sexual Debut and Pregnancy Among Child Welfare Involved Youth: A Cross-Sectional Study Using the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being (NSCAW) II.” Her committee was chaired by Dr. Luisa N. Borrell with Drs. Diana Romero and Daniel Herman serving as committee members.

“My journey with the CUNY SPH has been long, but I am grateful for every moment,” Betancourt says. “The faculty and students are all incredibly inspiring. But in particular, I want to thank Drs. Heidi Jones, Luisa Borrell, and Marilyn Aguirre-Molina for their kindness, support, and guidance throughout the years. I look forward to continuing my ties with CUNY SPH. I will be teaching next semester, and hope to work on collaborative research projects with CUNY SPH colleagues in the future.“

Betancourt will continue to apply the skills honed and knowledge gained as a doctoral student of epidemiology in her day-to-day practice as director of monitoring, evaluation, and learning with the Latino Commission on AIDS.
