STAR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) is a project of the Public Health Institute (PHI) in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). STAR is a Global Health talent hub. Through fellowships, internships, and strategic partnerships, STAR supports building the capacity of diverse global health professionals and organizations at all levels to make inclusive, collaborative, and innovative contributions to global health. STAR participants collaborate in the development of systems and tools that strengthen and sustain the local and global health response.
Open Fellowship Position:

POSITION: Healthy Communities Fellowship
ORGANIZATION: Aspen Global Innovators Group
Description
A healthy community is characterized not only by the absence of illness but by attributes that promote well-being and enable a high quality of life. In the US and across the globe, community leaders are showing up, starting initiatives and growing their efforts that address the health inequities taking place. The COVID-19 pandemic has been revealing long-standing and deeply rooted inequities that have existed for years within our healthcare systems but also within our communities. We are committed to amplifying the voices of local leaders, such as frontline health workers and innovators, spearheading community initiatives addressing these inequities.
The Healthy Communities Fellowship will select frontline leaders and innovators working on health inequities around the world to participate in a curated, one-year fellowship program to develop their voices as experts in the field and join a learning community of leaders.
Fellows engage in narrative and communications training, peer and expert learning exchanges, and space for reflection and connection – all to strengthen their ability to make change.
Nominations for the Healthy Communities Fellowship are open Thursday, october 1, 2020- friday, november 13, 2020.
Selection Criteria
Individuals that are selected to participate in the Healthy Communities Fellowship and meet the following selection criteria:
- Frontline health workers and innovators focused on improving and creating resilient community health systems
- Has a record of significant positive impact in a local community by addressing health issues in an innovative way, using an explicit equity lens, or demonstrating strong advocacy efforts around one or more issues being faced by frontline health workers
- Fellow, organization, and community will uniquely benefit from activities of the Healthy Communities Fellowship, as articulated in fellowship application
- Can be based anywhere
- Has a passionate, personal connection to the community and the health challenges being faced by its members
- Demonstrates a willingness to receive collaborative feedback from group of fellows and trainers
- Committed to work towards breakthroughs that increase effectiveness and reach of frontline health workers to improve health outcomes for everyone, everywhere
Fellows Receive

POSITION: Fall R&D – Covid-19 Clinical Lab Interns
ORGANIZATION: Mirimus (via LifeSci Internship Program)
Description
These full- and part-time roles, open to undergrads, grad students, and grads, offer the chance to help fight the pandemic here in NYC by assisting in the company’s COVID-19 Clinical Lab as well as in the field.
The opportunity may be of interest both to applicants with lab experience, as well as to those who are strong in computer, communications and organizational skills. (In addition to candidates with the requisite lab skills, Mirimus would also like to see candidates who have excellent computer skills, in particular advanced Excel, including pivot tables and vlook-up.)
Mirimus has devised a strategy of pooling virus test samples and testing entire populations as a unit, cutting the cost of testing dramatically, while enabling the detection of a susceptible group that would need to undergo individual testing. Interns will work in the field (helping with sample collection or training those onsite on how to set up sample collection events, record barcodes, etc.), and may also conduct research and development for Mirimus’s genetic engineering services pipeline.

POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellowships Available in Population Health Training Program

Fellows in this Population Health Science Training Program work closely with academic mentors in social and health science fields to build skills in interdisciplinary population health research to prepare them for academic careers focused on addressing pressing public health problems.
