On April 21, Erin McKinney-Prupis, a DPH student in the Community, Society, and Health track, successfully defended her dissertation, “Psychosocial impacts and employment preparedness of participating in an HIV peer program: Implications for tailoring a vocational counseling model for PLWH.” Her dissertation committee was chaired by Professor Christian Grov, with Associate Professor Emma Tsui, and Hunter College Assistant Professor Jen Yung-Chen Chiu.
Dr. McKinney-Prupis’ research looked at the impact of employment for people living with HIV.
“During a pandemic my findings have become more relevant than ever before,” Dr. McKinney-Prupis’ says. “Everyone deserves to have employment that provides meaning, financial security, and adequate health benefits. I was quite disappointed that I could not defend my dissertation in person, but Zoom allowed for 62 classmates, co-workers, friends, and family to be part of my moment making it more special than I ever could have imagined!”
