Sean Haley

His study uses a mixed methods research design to assess attitudinal and resource barriers to screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) implementation in primary care community health clinics in Rio de Janeiro. The study includes a literature review to provide background information, and focus groups among primary care providers to assess providers’ perceptions of alcohol screening. The focus group findings will inform the content of day long SBIRT trainings delivered to 100-150 providers. Pre and post training assessments will assess SBIRT implementation readiness. Haley will also deliver three seminars to the State University of Rio (UERJ) as well as other health care organizations on implementation science, performance improvement and development of quality measures for behavioral health. The Fulbright Program, which aims to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government.

Congratulations, Sean!
