Dr. Terry Huang, a Professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy received a 3-year National Cancer Institute Diversity Supplement to his ongoing R01 study, known as the PARCS Study, to evaluate the impact of citywide park redesign and renovation on the health of New Yorkers. The PARCS study — a partnership with New York City Parks to evaluate the public health impact of the Community Parks Initiative — aims to follow adults in 30 intervention parks neighborhoods vs. 20 socio-demographically matched control park neighborhoods to gauge any changes in physical activity, mental health, quality of life and a range of community welling indices. A new cohort of children is currently being added through separate funding. The Diversity Supplement funding will be used to support an incoming doctoral student in Epidemiology on this project.
