Kristina Rodriguez, epidemiology doctoral student at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) has been awarded the David Rosenstein Award for Best Student Abstract for her APHA abstract entitled “Comparing MSM on PrEP to those who meet CDC guidance for PrEP use, but are not taking it: Results from a U.S. National Sample.”
Discussing her abstract, Ms. Rodriguez explains, “PrEP’s effectiveness as an HIV prevention tool is contingent on a population’s awareness of the drug, its accessibility/availability, and the socio-behaviors related to its use. Gaining a better understanding of why those most likely to benefit from the drug and who might be reluctant to take it will be integral to understanding how to maximize PrEP’s contribution to effective HIV prevention.”
The paper was co-authored by Elizabeth Kelvin and Christian Grov, both CUNY SPH faculty members, as well as Jeffrey Parsons.
The award will be announced and presented at the HIV/AIDS Section social at the APHA annual meeting in Atlanta, GA on Sunday, November 5, 2017.
