Systems Change Series Presents: Dr. Hipp & Dr. Kacynski Date:5/9/17 Time: 10:30AM ‚Äì 12PM Location: CUNY SPH, Room 707 RSVP Drs. Aaron Hipp and Andrew Kaczynski will be visiting CUNY School of Public Health and the Center for Systems and Community Design to hold a school wide presentation in collaboration with the Centers Systems Changer Series titled: “Emerging Technologies in Built Environment and Physical Activity Research and Practice.” Dr. Hipp’s areas of interest include: ‚Ä¢ How, where, and why our public built environments impact health behaviors such as physical activity and recreation. ‚Ä¢Use of emerging technologies and crowdsourcing to study the interaction between built environments and community health behaviors. ‚Ä¢ Understanding and improving spatial uncertainty in built environment and physical activity research. ‚Ä¢ How programs such as Open Streets andCiclovias help activate public built environments and potentially increasehealthy and sustainable behaviors. ‚Ä¢ The effect of the environment where we spend most of our time (work/school and sleep) on leisure time physical activity. And Dr. Kaczynski’s areas of interest include: ‚Ä¢ Adopting a social ecological perspective to understand how the built environment, including the design of neighborhoods and communities, influences recreational and utilitarian physical activity (walking, cycling, etc.). ‚Ä¢ The intersection of arks and recreation management and public health and he is especially interested in ‚Ä¢ The role of community parks in increasing physical activity and reducing obesity amongst children and adults. ‚Ä¢ How parks can promote health-related environmental justice in communities by offering equitable and accessible opportunities for physical activity among all ages and by engaging citizens in effortsto improve these important community resources. While visiting the CUNYSchool of Public Health they will be holding individual meetings, facultyworkshops and a joint school wide presentation in collaboration with the Center for Systems and Design Thinking.
