Informatics and disasters: an informed journey.
In this talk, we will have journey around to the disaster cycle and how different stakeholders benefit from informatics. We will explore options available from the home to the ICU, and from preparation to rehabilitation. This journey will highlight opportunities and challenges for informatics and public health.

Jose Florez-Arango, MD, PhD,
Associate Professor , CUNY SPH
Jose Florez-Arango is a Medical Doctor (MD) trained in Medellin Colombia, with a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, and a PhD on Health Informatics. He was a Fulbright scholar and has experience in emergency medicine, prehospital care and emergency management, tropical diseases, global health, and telemedicine. As an Informatician, his previous experience includes clinical decision support systems, development of health information systems based-on international standards, mHealth, human-computer interaction, human factors, interoperability and controlled vocabularies. He has also been involved in developing clinical simulation centers in Colombia, two virtual learning environments, and one dual degree online master program.

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics presents the Epi-Bios Forum on the first Wednesday of every month. The Forum features a presentation by an invited speaker, followed by a short presentation of research by an SPH student who is collaborating with a faculty member.
