CUNY SPH is proud to co-sponsor: DISCRIMINATION – A PUBLIC HEALTH THREAT A CONVERSATION WITH COMMISSIONER MARY TRAVIS BASSETT September 12 | 5pm-7pm | CUNY School of Law | RSVP Mary Travis Bassett has been the commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene since January 2014. She is a national and international expert on public health. In November 2015, Commissioner Bassett gave a TEDMED talk, ‚ÄúWhy your doctor should care about social justice,‚Äù about witnessing the AIDS epidemic firsthand in Zimbabwe and setting up a clinic to treat and educate people about the virus. She approaches public health with a particular focus on social justice, health inequities and structural racism. Commissioner Bassett will make an hour long presentation, which will be followed by a Q & A session with students in the Health Practice Clinic and a reception.
