New York Vaccine Literacy Campaign

About the New York Vaccine Literacy Campaign

Partnering to provide tailored vaccine communication resources to promote lifelong community health

The New York Vaccine Literacy Campaign (VLC) is an initiative at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy. The VLC launched its second phase in August 2022 to support the recovery of widespread adoption of routine vaccinations. This goal includes a concentrated effort in Harlem with the Harlem Health Initiative to demonstrate successful community-academic partnerships to support preventative care and health education at the neighborhood-level. The first phase of the VLC was launched in May 2021 to address the pressing COVID-19 vaccine communication and information needs facing community-based workforces.

Through outreach and partnership, the VLC aims to lighten the load of community-based organizations and coalitions by increasing access to vaccine education and information through tailored webinars, training modules, and other capacity-building resources. Data collection and resource navigation are provided through reports, e-newsletter distribution, social media and other communication channels to respond to the needs identified by community partners.

Our efforts respond to current downward trends in vaccination and mitigate persistent confusion caused by miscommunication and misinformation. The VLC aims to ensure the health and safety of community members through the development of culturally competent, linguistically sensitive resources that promote consistent access to and confidence in routine vaccination.

The VLC works in partnership with community-based organizations to determine content, format, and audience for prioritized resources. Collaboration outcomes have included one-pagers, PSA video series, presentations, training toolkits, and webinars.

If you are interested in partnering with the VLC, please complete this inquiry form or email VaccineLiteracy@sph.cuny.edu

This biweekly bulletin is created through a collaboration of three projects at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy – the NY Vaccine Literacy Campaign, Harlem Health Initiative, and Harlem Strong. The e-newsletter rounds up top general health, vaccine and mental health data points, news and updates, and communication resources to help address community-level needs.
