At the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislators Annual Legislative Conference, CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez announced the recipients of this year’s Caucus CUNY Scholars Program, which include a CUNY SPH student and an alum.
Ryan Chan graduated in December 2025 with an MPH in Health Policy and Management (HPAM), and Maria Thomas is a current MPH student, also on the HPAM track. Thomas is also a Molina Scholar. The third scholar is Borough of Manhattan Community College student Mary Mojisolaoluwa Ogungbemi.
The Caucus CUNY Scholars Program is a local internship program for students who are interested in community service and the State Legislature. The program allows students to learn about the work performed by the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus, as well as the services provided by their legislature to communities of need in the City of New York.
In addition to the first hand experiences they receive in the district offices of New York State Senators and Assembly members, all Caucus CUNY Scholars are given academic guidance through enrollment in campus-based seminars with CUNY faculty, as well as regular meetings with members of the Caucus and their staff.
