Frieda Foster, chair of Dean Ayman El-Mohandes’ Advisory Council, was appointed chair of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board last week, after serving as vice chair since 2016 and as a member since 2009.

Foster has decades of experience in education, government and civic service, and public relations. Prior to joining the Workers’ Compensation Board, she was a public relations manager at Burson-Marsteller, where she managed largest account in the firm, Help America Vote Act (HAVA), and organized the city-wide education campaign for NYC’s voting system transition from manual to electronic machines.

Foster also currently serves as chair of the Harlem Community Development Corporation Board of Directors and member of the Community Advisory Board for Channel Thirteen/WLIW. From 2006-2016, she served as a CUNY trustee, helping oversee campus management.

A lifelong Harlem resident, Foster holds an MS in corporate communications from the University of Wisconsin and a BA in communications from Hofstra University.

“I am deeply grateful for the support from Governor Hochul and her executive team, as well as the incredible leadership team at the Board,” Foster said in a press release. “I am honored to serve under this historic administration and look forward to building on the many important achievements made under the leadership of [Former Chair Clarissa] Rodriguez.”
