CUNY SPH is proud to announce that the work of the Vaccine Literacy Campaign (VLC), funded through the CUNY SPH Foundation, has been highlighted in a new report by the New York Health Foundation (NYHealth). The report, published in October 2024, highlights CUNY SPH as a co-grantee, alongside the Fund for Public Health in New York and the Community Health Care Association of New York State, in promoting equitable COVID-19 vaccination across New York State.

With a $75,000 grant from NYHealth and additional support from a consortium of co-funders, CUNY SPH developed data-driven messages to improve COVID-19 vaccination uptake, working in partnership with community-based organizations to address vaccine literacy and raise confidence. This initiative, named the Vaccine Literacy Campaign (VLC) targeted nine counties within New York, particularly focusing on communities that faced the greatest challenges in accessing and driving uptake of COVID-19 vaccines.

While the VLC sunset in May 2023, the program laid the groundwork for the launch of the Health Equity and Literacy Program (HELP), continuing the school’s commitment to reducing health inequities and fostering health literacy in underserved populations. Under the umbrella of the Harlem Health Initiative’s community-engaged work, HELP works in partnership with community-based organizations to build capacity and provide technical assistance across a variety of pressing public health needs.
