The CUNY SPH Foundation is excited to announce the third year of its highly anticipated Career Skills Academy, featuring a dynamic lineup of accomplished professionals to headline the Masterclass series. The Career Skills Academy, a first-of-its-kind extracurricular training program nationwide, equips students with essential skills for career advancement and professional development.

The Masterclass series will kick off with a keynote presentation on career values from Dr. Julian Harris, operating partner on the healthcare services team at Deerfield and Chief Executive Officer of ConcertoCare. Dr. Harris has held senior leadership roles at Cigna and Google Ventures. Earlier in his career, he was the healthcare chief financial officer of the White House Office of Management and Budget and the medicaid director for the State of Massachusetts.

Morgan Selby, chief strategy officer at Labfinder, will explore “The Importance of Mentors & Sponsors.” Selby’s insights will help participants understand how to cultivate pivotal relationships for career growth.

Dr. Estevan Garcia, DrPH ‘18, chief health & wellness officer at Dartmouth College, will delve into “Understanding Company Culture.” His extensive experience leading health systems and knowledge of the CUNY SPH education experience will provide attendees with the knowledge to navigate and thrive within different organizational cultures.

Closing the semester will be Alli Sosna, MPH ‘18, director of procurement and nutrition at Tangelo. Sosna will lead a conversation on the topic of “Master the Professional Pitch.”

This year we are joined by Regeneron as our volunteer sponsor for the Academy’s annual Resume Review Day. Chaired by Dr. Katrina Mateo, MPH, PhD ’19, Regeneron volunteers will offer private advising sessions to CSA students as part of their annual global day of service, Day for Doing Good (D4DG).

“We are delighted to celebrate the third year of the Career Skills Academy with an exceptional lineup of speakers,” says CUNY SPH Dean Ayman El-Mohandes. “This series offers our students invaluable insights into career values, the significance of mentorship, the nuances of company culture, and the art of delivering a compelling professional pitch. These masterclasses are designed to empower our students with the essential skills to excel as future leaders in public health. We are proud to foster their growth and preparation for impactful careers.”

The Career Skills Academy Masterclass series is an invaluable opportunity for CUNY SPH students to gain practical knowledge and network with leaders across various fields. Interested students are encouraged to apply for the program by August 23, 2024.
