At the 2023 APHA Annual Meeting and Expo last Tuesday, CUNY SPH Associate Professor Sean Haley was honored with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Section Leadership Award.

Haley was honored along with Cassandra Tourre for their work to found and lead the Alcohol Action Network, a nationwide network of alcohol prevention practitioners and researchers engaging in alcohol policy issues in their states or local communities.

The ATOD section of APHA includes multidisciplinary public health professionals committed to preventing population-level harms related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. The ATOD section works to develop, foster, and advocate for sound research, policy, and practice in the fields of ATOD epidemiology, prevention, and treatment. Each year, the Section Leadership Award recognizes a member who has made significant contributions to the ATOD field.

“I am honored to receive this honor and look forward to continuing our work to reduce alcohol harms in communities across the country,” says Haley.
