Dr. Yan Wang, assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions, is the 2023 recipient of the Ayman El-Mohandes Young Professional Public Health Innovation Award for her groundbreaking work in mobile health.
Each year, the award is granted in Dean El-Mohandes’ name to a public health professional who is applying an innovative solution to a complex public health challenge and who is making a significant contribution to the field.
Wang was presented with the award during the 2023 APHA Annual Meeting and Expo on Monday.
In her research, Wang has focused on cannabis and alcohol use, particularly among vulnerable populations, including older adults and persons living with HIV. She has pioneered the use of biosensors as an objective measure for detecting alcohol use and has been developing mobile health interventions to help overcome barriers to substance use treatment.
“Dr. Wang’s contributions to the field have helped leverage mobile technology for public health research,” says Dean El-Mohandes. “It is through this kind of innovation that we as public health practitioners can adapt as the world changes rapidly around us. We are thrilled to recognize her work with this award.”
