POSITION: Senior Research Coordinator

ORGANIZATION: NYU Langone (SocioEconomic Evaluation of Dietary Decisions (SEED) Program) 

Position Summary:
In this role, the Senior Research Coordinator will be responsible for leading the communications strategy and policy analysis for the Socio-Economic Evaluation of Dietary Decisions (SEED) Program in the Department of Population Health. The successful candidate will oversee the communications portfolio and social media management for the program while ensuring the results of new communication and outreach strategies are regularly assessed. The Senior Research Coordinator will also conduct industry and policy analyses related to food policy, food marketing, corporate behavior, health disparities and technology to inform research and advocacy strategies. She/he/they will coordinate the monthly seminar series and give presentations to academic partners, community organizations, policy groups, etc. The Senior Research Coordinator will assist with the submission of grant applications by drafting/editing manuscripts, funding proposals, reports, and communications to foundations and donors as needed. This role provides guidance to support staff and interns.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor degree or equivalent in marketing, public policy, journalism, public health or related discipline. Experience in academic or creative setting; proven success in supporting major communications goals; experience with news, events, and features in print or online. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as World, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Excellent editing and writing skills, and organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Ability to work and make decisions independently. Time management skills and ability to multitask. Ability to identify, analyze and
solve problems; ability to work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree preferred. Strong research and analytical skills, including experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods. Proficiency in web content development methodology and analytics software. Excited to learn about and engage stakeholders across multiple generations (Millennials, Gen Z, Gen Alpha, etc) across multiple channels and contexts. Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.

POSITION: Associate Director of Research 

ORGANIZATION: Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health’s Gender, Adolescent Transitions and Environment (GATE) Program

Position Summary: The Gender, Adolescent Transitions and Environment (GATE) Program, an innovative research and practice program dedicated towards improving the lives of adolescents and women in the United States and globally, is situated within the Department of Sociomedical Sciences in the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City.

GATE seeks a highly qualified and experienced candidate to fill the position of Associate Director of Research. The incumbent will preferably have an advanced degree in public health, 6-10+ years of applied practical experience in public health research and practice, preferably global, a good understanding of global health priorities and will be looking for opportunities aligned with our areas of work, including menstrual health and hygiene, education, gender, water, and sanitation.

The incumbent must have the ability to travel 30% of the time and willingness to travel to low-resource global contexts for extended periods of time for data collection activities, potentially including humanitarian contexts.

Responsibilities

Research Activities (55%)

  • With the GATE Director, manage and lead primarily qualitative and some mixed-method research operations for a range of complex projects across global and US sites, primarily focused on adolescent and women’s health, menstrual health, gender and sanitation.
  • Lead and/or support the development of scientific manuscripts for publication and manage the submission process.
  • Co-lead the training and capacity building of domestic or global research teams as needed.
  • Manage students who support the research activities (e.g., IRB protocols, tool development, data analysis).
  • Co-lead research translation efforts, including supporting or presenting research findings at national or global conferences, the development of policy briefs, creation of social media, webinars, knowledge management products (infographics, toolkits), op-eds and other advocacy outputs.

Management (20%)

  • Provide overall management support for the GATE program, including co-leading program implementation and liaising with institutional and global partners, staff and student recruitment and hiring.
  • Co-lead budget monitoring and development and other administrative tasks, including grant and donor narrative reporting.
  • Support the planning and coordination of domestic or global meetings with partner organizations or larger stakeholder groups of relevance.
  • Manage junior staff and students, including mentoring and training.

Strategic Planning and Development (20%)

  • With the Director, support the development of original grant proposals, the development of concept notes (solicited or unsolicited) and managing submission processes.

Program and Job Description:
The mission of the Bureau of Environmental Disease and Injury Prevention (EDIP) is to prevent environmental disease and injury in homes, communities, and the workplace, and to protect health by promoting healthy environments and health equity. The Bureau is comprised of five Programs – Healthy Homes, Office of Environmental Investigations, Environmental Exposure Assessment and Education, Poison Control Center, and Injury and Violence Prevention.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Research and document the appropriate use and interpretation of exposure guidelines for the general public and occupational settings on priority contaminants of concern as well as for emerging environmental and occupational health issues.
Perform environmental health risk assessments, conduct supportive research, and oversee and develop risk communication materials related to poisonings, outbreaks, air quality complaints, radiological or toxic releases, extreme weather events, and emerging public health issues.
Develop comments on proposed regulations, standards, guidelines, and legislation related to environmental and occupational health issues.
Provide technical support to EDIP programs and activities, with a specific emphasis on occupational and environmental health investigations.
Conduct risk assessments of environmental sampling data related to contamination in soil, water, air and other environmental media. Conduct research to support assessments as needed.
Serve as subject matter expert on a broad range of ongoing and emerging environmental and occupational health issues.
Conduct and supervise adult occupational lead and other heavy metal poisoning case investigations.
Develop EDIP occupational health portfolio including strategic partnerships and data sources.
Work closely with the Poison Control Center and other EDIP programs and offices to explore novel data quality and analysis topics.
Leverage internal and external resources to analyze, synthesize, and disseminate occupational health data products.
Support EDIP and the Division’s emergency preparedness and response activities.
Represent EDIP and the Division on internal and external committees and workgroups.
Represent EDIP and the Division at public events such as community meetings and press conferences

Minimum Qual Requirements: 
 
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.

PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) uses a racial and social justice approach to eliminate health inequities for those who are most marginalized in New York City and to reduce overall premature mortality from the leading causes of preventable death with the vision that every New Yorker will live in a thriving neighborhood with equitable access to resources that help support healthy individuals and communities.  This Division unifies and strengthens the Department’s lines of work directed at eliminating racial inequities for preventable health conditions, which are rooted in historical and contemporary injustices and discrimination, including racism. 

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

In coordination with Groceries to Go programmatic team within the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, lead and implement engagement strategy for supporting newly registered Groceries to Go participants within specific zip codes, and who have not yet used their accounts to order groceries; provide technical assistance and active problem solving for community participants and liaise with central and vendor teams; provide other engagement and communication activities as specified by management. Neighborhood work will reside in specific zip codes as specified by neighborhood leads.
Use NYC data identifying clusters of chronic disease, and feedback from Community Health Workers to develop strategies to improve access to healthy food.
Analyze data on the use of WIC, SNAP, Health Bucks and other supplemental nutrition programs, and identify geographic areas and population groups where these programs are being underutilized and develop strategies to ensure New Yorkers have access to the nutritional supplement program that they are entitled to receive.
Review literature of other health departments to develop recommendations on policies and programs that are necessary to eliminate inequitable food-related disease within NYC TRIE neighborhoods.
Support development and management of overall strategic plan for food justice work within the bureau to support division and bureau goals.
Track Groceries to Go engagement activities in customer service database and manage food programmatic data, including accurately maintaining data and completing programmatic workflow; updating data, creating and maintaining data reports and visualizations, and responding to data requests.
Engage with targeted organizations to support and promote bureau food programs and activities, including ongoing relationship management.
Work to establish a process to refer people with chronic diseases to supportive self-management programs provided by health care providers and CBOs.
Support other programmatic needs within the Bureau including, assisting with new initiatives, data and report management, programmatic referrals and navigation, coalition support, and capacity building.
Other duties as assigned by the team.

POSITION: Senior Director of Content and Instruction

OSWP programs focus on teaching students to take care of their minds and their bodies builds a foundation for lifelong learning and ensures they have the skills needed to be physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally healthy. 

Responsibilities

 Physical Education

  • In collaboration with the Director of Physical Education, develop strategy and plan for instructional resource development for Physical Education.
  • Develop long-term strategy for development of PE instructional resources in schools.
  • Provide oversight and interdepartmental relationship management for work associated with the K-12 PE Scope & Sequence and associated resources.
  • Support the Senior Executive Director of OSWP to manage cross-functional relationships within CCWB and across the DOE, working closely across teams and troubleshooting where necessary to ensure seamless coordination between teams in support of Physical Education and related work.
  • Lead integration of Adapted Physical Education (APE) into overall PE strategy and planning.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the work associated with itinerant Adapted Physical Education Teachers working across the city.
  • Manage ongoing strategy development around integration of Physical Education content into supplemental Physical Activity programs such as Move-to-Improve and CHAMPS.

Health Education

  • In collaboration with the Director of Health Education, develop strategy and plan for instructional resource development and professional learning for Health Education in NYC schools.
  • Develop a vision and project plan for expanding Health Education in elementary and middle schools, continuing the focus on implementation of the Chancellor’s sexual health mandate and fulfilling CDC grant requirements.
  • Set vision and direction for use of teacher leadership as lever for improving Health Education practices across the city.
  • Supervise planning and development of ongoing Health Education curricula projects for NYC schools.
  • Oversee management of timelines and deliverables related to all CDC grants.
  • Provide strategic oversight and serve as interdepartmental liaison around Health Education-related program areas such as the Condom Availability Program (CAP) and OUT for Safe Schools.
  • Liaise with interagency partners and health education advocacy groups.

Position Summary

Responsibilities

Three years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity is required.

POSITION: Integrative Health Equity Program Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a Program Manager for the Integrative Health Equity Initiative at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health. The goal of the initiative is to consolidate and advance our efforts to resolve longstanding inequities in health and healthcare using the unique framework of integrative medicine.

Integrative medicine focuses on whole person care using a wide range of therapies and modalities (e.g., acupuncture, mindfulness, herbal medicine) stemming from all parts of the world. Our work to advance integrative health equity imagines optimal health for all through multilingual, culturally responsive care across the lifespan, accessible to all regardless of socioeconomic status.

With supervision from the Associate Director for Health Equity and Diversity, the Program Manager coordinates across existing and future integrative health equity projects. This includes setting up and coordinating the Osher Center Community Advisory Board; serving as a liaison between community collaborators and Osher Center leadership; providing feedback on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts at the Osher Center, including programming for our ongoing DEI working group; and facilitating synergy across integrative health equity projects and efforts.  The Integrative Health Equity Program Manager will work closely with Osher Center faculty, staff, trainees, and community partners. The position will collaborate with Osher Center’s teams working on:

  • Building and sustaining community partnerships to improve access to integrative health for marginalized individuals and communities
  • Testing models of care to improve access to integrative medicine for racially and linguistically diverse individuals with chronic conditions
  • Improving diversity in the field of integrative medicine through community engagement and pipeline training programs (e.g., the Integrative Health Equity and Applied Research summer training program)
  • Integrating the initiative’s goals throughout the Center’s administrative, clinical, education, and research programs

The ideal Program Manager for this position is a proactive, flexible professional with strong team-building, program management, evaluation, and communication skills; committed to health equity and integrative medicine; and interested in working with collaborative interprofessional teams on multiple projects. Collaborating with the Associate Director for Health Equity and Diversity, the Program Manager will:

  • Manage program development and implementation
  • Support dissemination of integrative health interventions for diverse patient populations
  • Manage team communications, including coordinating and facilitating team meetings, distributing materials, and corresponding on progress across projects
  • Collaborate with the project team to support ongoing grant progress reports and new grant applications
  • Collaborate with Osher Center director and executive committee on annual diversity and accountability report
  • Develop program evaluation metrics to track the progress of the Integrative Health Equity Initiative
  • Coordinate the relationship of the Osher Center’s work to projects and programs related to health equity across UCSF
  • Communicate progress on integrative health equity projects to internal and external partners

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3+ years of related experience in integrative health and/or health equity
  • Has thorough knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and accessibility programs and can apply more advanced subject matter knowledge in the completion of diversity, equity, and inclusion assignments.
  • Familiar with integrative medicine and how it can contribute to advancing health equity in the United States context
  • Possesses in-depth skills to gather, organize and perform analyses on diversity, equity and inclusion and accessibility programs and initiatives as well as presenting findings and making recommendations clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Possesses excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Has thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.
  • Ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data into accessible language and visual displays
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and professionally with UCSF colleagues and external collaborators in academic and community-based settings (verbally, in writing, and through active listening)

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s in public health or health sciences, or social science related field, and/or equivalent experience/training
