POSITION: CUNY Food Justice Leadership (CFJL) Fellowship

The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute is excited to announce the launch of the CUNY Food Justice Leadership (CFJL) Fellowship! This is a *PAID* opportunity for CUNY students to learn from some of the brightest experts in the field on a range of food related issues. The program is designed to offer opportunities for continued training and participation in a variety of food-centered civic activities for emerging student leaders at CUNY.
This program is ideal for CUNY students who are interested in food justice and looking to strengthen their food justice leadership skills! The first 15-weeks of the program will require students to commit 6 hours/week for instructional learning, where participants will be introduced to food justice concepts and career paths. They will have the opportunity to network with invited guest speakers and build connections. Participants will then be partnered with a NYC organization to complete a 180-hour internship requirement.
The program is expected to begin in June 2023 and sessions will be held on Tuesdays between 2:00-5:00pm. All fellows will be paid a generous stipend for their participation in the program, which is all made possible thanks to funding from the Levitt Foundation.
Eligibility Requirements
– Be between the ages of 18-25
– Be an incoming or current CUNY student with preference given to those with less than 30 academic credits
– Meet CUNY standards for good academic standing (i.e., a cumulative GPA of 2.0+)
– Have a minimum of ~200 hours of documented involvement in social
justice work, community service, with preference to food related activities (paid or
unpaid)

POSITION: Research Assistant – Food Environment and Food Access Surveys
ORGANIZATION: CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute (CUFPI)
The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute (CUFPI) is seeking multiple bi-lingual research assistants to conduct street intercept and telephone surveys about New Yorker’s experiences with their food environment and various food access programs.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate experience in conducting street intercept or telephone based surveys or interviews.
Research assistants must be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, and Russian
Research assistants must commit to working for at least 60 hours on site collecting data, with potential to increase if interested. Weekly schedules can be flexible but must be completed between the hours of 10am-6pm. The hourly rate for this position is $22 an hour. MPH and dietetic intern students are encouraged to apply.

POSITION: Research Assistant
ORGANIZATION: CUNY SPH Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC)
The Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC) project focuses on individuals’
experiences with healthcare in New York City (NYC). It is a multi‐year
collaboration with the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The project comprises focus groups and interviews with a diverse sample of NYC residents.
The Position: We are looking to hire several part-time research assistants (RAs) who will beresponsible for assisting to recruit project participants and will work closely with the HEAC Project Coordinator and other team members. The RAs will engage with New Yorkers and organizations in neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs to invite them to participate in focus groups and post project flyers. This outreach will consist of, but not be limited to: flyer distribution, event attendance and tabling, community presentation, attendance at community events, and other activities as required by the project
This position requires frequent travel to a variety of locations and events throughout NYC. Applicants must be comfortable traveling throughout the city and have the flexibility to attend occasional events on weekends and evenings.

Time Commitment and Compensation

events, as well as on-site work at the CUNY SPH campus. The position is available to be filled immediately.

POSITION: Research Assistant Intern (In-person; Month of May – select your days)
ORGANIZATION: Institute for Family Health – Bronx Health REACH
Position Details – Salary: $20.00 per hour; Hours : Time Commitment is 8 hours per day for 3 days in May 2023. (Minimum time commitment: 8 hours for 1 day in May 2023). Required: Willingness to come to the Bronx River Greenway Park located in the Bronx for the duration of 3 full days to collect data. Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently under minimal supervision. Team player demonstrating an ability to effectively interact with investigators, participants, and other research assistants.
Study Description: The REACH: Bronx River Greenway Parks and Trail Accessibility and Utilization Study is a mixed-method study led by the Institute for Family Health’s Bronx Health REACH to evaluate the Bronx River Greenway Parks’ trail accessibility and utilization post-renovation.
Research Program: The Bronx River Greenway Parks and Trail Accessibility and Utilization mixed-method research study aiming to evaluate the impact of improvements on the parks and trail accessibility and utilization using an estimated sample size of 385 study participants. The Bronx River Greenway parks and trail renovations were conducted primarily by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), sponsored by diverse entities and overseen by Bronx River Alliance, with Bronx Health REACH as one of the sponsoring partners of this initiative that builds upon the Institute and Bronx Health REACH’s work and its mission to encourage underserved community members to engage in preventive health-promoting behaviors, such as physical activity, in their living environment to reduce poor health outcomes and racial and ethnic health disparities in the Bronx. The research questions are:
1. To what extent has the Bronx River Greenway renovations led to improved Parks and Trail access by Bronx residents?
2. To what extent has the Bronx River Greenway renovations contributed to improved Parks and Trail utilization by Bronx residents?
This evaluation will include counts of visitors, park users’ observations, and an interviewer-administered questionnaire. The corresponding evaluation instruments are the SOPARC Observation Tool and an Intercept Survey used to collect data on individuals aged 13 and above. Data collection will occur simultaneously at two parks, including the trail passing through them during 2-3 weekdays and one weekend day at 4 different time periods each day over a 2-week period. Interns will collect data for post-evaluation at Starlight Park and at Concrete Park. An estimated minimum of ten interns will collect data at the scheduled times. The Bronx River Alliance collected baseline data using the SOPARC Observation Tool and an Intercept Survey in the summer of 2019.
Some areas of interest include: Physical activity, Park usage, Racial Health Disparities, Community Participatory Research, Neighborhood Characteristics, Social Determinants of Health, and Discrimination.
Responsibilities: Interns are needed to assist investigators in the data collection using SOPARC Observation tools and in the distribution of intercept surveys in the Bronx River Greenway Parks for the duration of 3 full days. Presence in the field is mandatory, this internship position cannot be fulfilled remotely.
What to expect: This internship offers the opportunity to learn about how researchers work with community-based organizations in the Bronx and use available resources and strategies to locate and recruit study participants. Interns will have the chance to increase their knowledge and abilities of how to communicate with members of racial and ethnic minority groups residing in the Bronx and gain valuable mixed-method research experience. In addition, other opportunities may include contributing to a growing list of resources for services available to the community. Opportunities to learn and assist with data analysis will be considered if requested.

POSITION: Health Data Analyst Internship/Temp

POSITION: Program/Project Support Coordinator I (Remote)
ORGANIZATION: University of Missouri School of Medicine – Young Adult Tobacco Use Prevention Project
Summary: This position will serve as the coordinator of the Young Adult Tobacco Use Prevention Project, implemented through the Missouri Partners in Prevention statewide coalition. This project coordinator is funded with grant funding from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri Department of Mental Health to engage and provide training, technical assistance, and support to Missouri colleges and universities to successfully implement or enhance a comprehensive tobacco -free campus policy that includes e-cigarettes, including raising awareness of the harms of tobacco use, particularly e-cigarettes, and promoting cessation among young adults and faculty/staff on campus. The coordinator will engage 5 campuses each year in the Tobacco-Free Campus Cohort and provide training, technical assistance, and support for campuses implementing policy review and change.
Essential Functions: The position will engage and provide training, technical assistance, and support to Missouri colleges and universities to successfully implement or enhance a comprehensive tobacco -free campus policy that includes e-cigarettes, including raising awareness of the harms of tobacco use, particularly e-cigarettes, and promoting cessation among young adults and faculty/staff on campus. The coordinator will engage 5 campuses each year in the Tobacco-Free Campus Cohort and provide training, technical assistance, and support for campuses implementing policy review and change. The coordinator will serve as a liaison to tobacco retailers and their employees at establishments across Missouri as well as Missouri’s college campuses to fully implement these projects. The program coordinator will also serve as the coordinator of the Missouri Partners in Prevention tobacco cessation training program. In this role, the coordinator will provide cultural competence training to tobacco cessation and other health care providers at Missouri campuses about providing cessation services to LGBTQ+ and TGQN individuals. This position impacts campus health and safety professionals at 24 campuses in Missouri and tobacco retailers and their employees in Missouri.
Additional Responsibilities:: In addition to the functions described, the coordinator of the Young Adult Tobacco Use Prevention Project will serve as a member of the Missouri Partners in Prevention Communication and Prevention Implementation Team, attending Missouri Partners in Prevention meetings, assisting with reading, writing, and editing of Missouri PIP products, and networking with PIP Campuses.

POSITION: Intern, Volunteer Services
ORGANIZATION: Win’s Volunteer Services
Win’s Volunteer Services department encompasses the recruitment, training, placement, and coordination of over 1,200 volunteers who support Win, as well as the cultivation and distribution of all in kind donations to the organization. The department matches client & staff needs with appropriate volunteers/in-kind donors to create enriching experiences for clients, offer products/services that Win could not otherwise access, and provide a supplementary workforce to ease staff workloads. Volunteer Services acts as a linkage point between frontline staff, in-kind donors, and volunteers, with a responsibility to educate external contributors on best practices of supporting Win in a TIC (trauma informed care) and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) framework. Volunteers & in-kind donors are essential members of our team, and they make a significant difference in the lives of families we serve.
Purpose of the Position:
The Volunteer Services Intern is responsible for supporting volunteer programs, in-kind donations, and other projects in the Volunteer Services Department. This job includes administrative tasks, volunteer support, and commuting to Win sites throughout New York City for programs/events (mostly weekdays, rarely evenings/weekends). The Intern works closely with the Coordinators, Manager, and Director to ensure the success of all Volunteer Services programs.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Support Donation Room operations, including preparing items for Win clients, folding, cleaning, general room organization, and assessing area(s) of highest need
• Support Coordinators with in-kind donations including the physical and logistical duties associated with deliveries, pick-ups, inspection, and distribution
• Assist in the administration of in-kind donations, including correspondence with donors, donation tracking procedures, and distribution to onsite staff and clients
• Support with planning & promotion of volunteer events with individuals, corporations, and nonprofit organizations; lead volunteer orientations; and assist with tracking volunteer initiatives
• Spearhead volunteer events across sites, serving as a point person for volunteers and onsite staff
• Assist with the Backpack Buddies drive, which provides supplies to over 3,000 school-aged kids
• Assist with the Holiday Gift Program, which ensures that all Win clients receive holiday gifts
Essential Functions:
• Must be able to travel to Win sites and other related meetings throughout New York City
• Must be able to regularly lift up to 40 pounds and do significant physical work
• Must be able to ascend/descend up to two flights of stairs
