POSITION: CUNY Recovery Corps – Migrant Health Education and Outreach Intern (paid, part-time; multiple openings)

A new opportunity for Students at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy to assist the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) in their efforts to provide health education and preventive health services to individuals and families in the NYC shelter system. Specifically, students will go door to door to educate about vaccinations and connect families to NYCDOHMH coordinated immunization efforts so that migrant children can attend school and be protected from vaccine preventable diseases. Activities include:
- Confirming if children and family members have immunization records,
- Educating families on need for documentation of immunizations to attend school,
- Escorting families to onsite vaccination events when applicable or scheduling families for healthcare and vaccination visits at offsite locations identified by NYC DOHMH.
- Answering questions about vaccinations and/or vaccine-preventable diseases with guidance from DOHMH.
- Educating families on prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Future assignments for student employees may include tuberculosis (TB) education in adult-only shelters, family education on environmental health issues such as lead poisoning, and education on maternal health/prenatal care.
Students will report to onsite DOHMH staff. Students will be required to attend orientation and safety training, and a weekly Thursday meeting.
Ten (10) part-time positions are available initially; more may be added at a later date.
Basic Details:
- Project Period: Now through June 30, 2023 (extension possible).
- Available Hours/Shifts: Monday – Friday 3:00 p.m. to approximately 8:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday approximately 10:00 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- In-person only at migrant shelters in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx.
- Rate of Pay: $20/hour.
Qualification Requirements:
- Current CUNY SPH student
- Spanish fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Available to work multiple weeks during the project period.
- Can provide proof of flu, COVID-19, MMR, and varicella vaccinations/varicella immunity.
- Ability to complete hiring paperwork quickly, including providing proof of student status as part-time or full-time from registrar’s office.
- Comfortable working with and talking to children, and to parents about their children’s health.

The Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC) project focuses on individuals’
experiences with healthcare in New York City (NYC). It is a multi‐year
collaboration with the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The project comprises focus groups and interviews with a diverse sample of NYC residents.
The Position: We are looking to hire several part-time research assistants (RAs) who will be responsible for assisting to recruit project participants and will work closely with the HEAC Project Coordinator and other team members. The RAs will engage with New Yorkers and organizations in neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs to invite them to participate in focus groups and post project flyers. This outreach will consist of, but not be limited to: flyer distribution, event attendance and tabling, community presentation, attendance at community events, and other activities as required by the project
This position requires frequent travel to a variety of locations and events throughout NYC. Applicants must be comfortable traveling throughout the city and have the flexibility to attend occasional events on weekends and evenings.

Required: Willingness to come to the Bronx River Greenway Park located in the Bronx for the duration of 3 full days to collect data. Study Description: The REACH: Bronx River Greenway Parks and Trail Accessibility and Utilization Study is a mixed-method study led by the Institute for Family Health’s Bronx Health REACH to evaluate the Bronx River Greenway Parks’ trail accessibility and utilization post-renovation.
Research Program: The Bronx River Greenway Parks and Trail Accessibility and Utilization mixed-method research study aiming to evaluate the impact of improvements on the parks and trail accessibility and utilization using an estimated sample size of 385 study participants. The Bronx River Greenway parks and trail renovations were conducted primarily by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), sponsored by diverse entities and overseen by Bronx River Alliance, with Bronx Health REACH as one of the sponsoring partners of this initiative that builds upon the Institute and Bronx Health REACH’s work and its mission to encourage underserved community members to engage in preventive health-promoting behaviors, such as physical activity, in their living environment to reduce poor health outcomes and racial and ethnic health disparities in the Bronx. The research questions are:
1. To what extent has the Bronx River Greenway renovations led to improved Parks and Trail access by Bronx residents?
2. To what extent has the Bronx River Greenway renovations contributed to improved Parks and Trail utilization by Bronx residents?
This evaluation will include counts of visitors, park users’ observations, and an interviewer-administered questionnaire. The corresponding evaluation instruments are the SOPARC Observation Tool and an Intercept Survey used to collect data on individuals aged 13 and above. Data collection will occur simultaneously at two parks, including the trail passing through them during 2-3 weekdays and one weekend day at 4 different time periods each day over a 2-week period. Interns will collect data for post-evaluation at Starlight Park and at Concrete Park. An estimated minimum of ten interns will collect data at the scheduled times. The Bronx River Alliance collected baseline data using the SOPARC Observation Tool and an Intercept Survey in the summer of 2019.
Some areas of interest include: Physical activity, Park usage, Racial Health Disparities, Community Participatory Research, Neighborhood Characteristics, Social Determinants of Health, and Discrimination.
Responsibilities: Interns are needed to assist investigators in the data collection using SOPARC Observation tools and in the distribution of intercept surveys in the Bronx River Greenway Parks for the duration of 3 full days. Presence in the field is mandatory, this internship position cannot be fulfilled remotely.
What to expect: This internship offers the opportunity to learn about how researchers work with community-based organizations in the Bronx and use available resources and strategies to locate and recruit study participants. Interns will have the chance to increase their knowledge and abilities of how to communicate with members of racial and ethnic minority groups residing in the Bronx and gain valuable mixed-method research experience. In addition, other opportunities may include contributing to a growing list of resources for services available to the community. Opportunities to learn and assist with data analysis will be considered if requested.

POSITION: Policy Fellow for Cost of Cancer Project – Remote
ORGANIZATION: American Cancer Society ACS
The Policy Fellow supports the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) Surveillance and Health Equity Department and Costs of Cancer project. The Fellow for this project – which is in its second year – will work with colleagues in the Department, and in partnership with the ACS Health Services Research Team, on data analyses and research addressing access to and receipt of cancer care; financial hardships associated with cancer. This will include conducting literature reviews, data analyses, data visualizations, and contributing to the writing of the Costs of Cancer project materials. Work may also include contributing to scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, where appropriate.
The goals of this research analysis are to provide scientific evidence to support and inform efforts and policies to reduce the economic burden of cancer and identify levers for reducing disparities and improving health equity, particularly in communities of color and for other groups historically marginalized in the healthcare system.

The Center of Excellence houses the Age-Friendly Glen Cove initiative, which is in the process of implementing a three-year action plan. Along with project partners, the City of Glen Cove will further develop its Age-Friendly/Livable Communities principles, projects, and plans with the goal of becoming a replicable Age-Friendly Center of Excellence.

Research Project:
The purpose of this fellowship program is to recruit, mentor, and further train doctoral-level scientists to conduct research in US sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations, focusing on HIV prevention among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) and/or transgender women. The HIV Research Branch (HRB) in the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) is the administrative lead and mentoring host of the program. The mentor and fellow will collaborate to develop an agenda of diverse SGM-related research activities completed together over the two-year training period. These activities will be based on the fellow’s area(s) of interest, training, and expertise in line with the purpose of the SGM fellowship program and available opportunities at CDC.
Learning Objectives:
The activities listed below represent the minimum training opportunities that a fellow will complete.
- 1. Participate in at least one conference or site visit related to a research project or programmatic activity related to SGM issues.

Reassurance Counselor must have at least 2 years of experience working with the disabled population and no less than two years of experience counseling. A Reassurance Counselor must be open-minded and have flexibility in servicing multicultural consumers, LGBTQ consumers, homeless consumers, and more while providing support and resources. The ideal candidate will be someone who can passionately support our mission of advancing the lives of people with disabilities and understands that mind and body wellness is an imperative relationship that must be maintained in tandem.
Shift: (must be flexible) 9:30 am till 5:30 pm. Monday – Friday. Hybrid Schedule (Two days per week must be client-facing).
Salary: $25 per hour up to 14 hours per week

The American Cancer Society’s Intramural Research Post-Doctoral Fellowship Training Program is a transdisciplinary program encompassing intramural research in Surveillance and Health Equity Science and Population Science. The Surveillance and Health Equity Science Department is currently inviting applications for a post-doctoral research fellowship in health services research. Drawing on the expertise and mentorship of scientists in the Society’s intramural research department, fellows will design and establish an innovative, independent research portfolio that aligns with the Society’s mission and research priorities.
The program is designed to equip fellows with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to become independent, yet highly collaborative researchers. As part of their training, fellows will publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, present their work at scientific meetings, and contribute to the foundational scientific resources of the American Cancer Society. In addition, capitalizing on the unique multidisciplinary environment at the American Cancer Society, fellows will learn skills for translating and communicating the relevance of their research findings to health policy makers as well as the general public and the media. POSITION: Post-Doctoral Fellow, Breast Cancer Epidemiology

Position Description
The Population Science Department invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in breast cancer epidemiology. Candidates with an interest in breast cancer prevention or survivorship research are encouraged to apply.
Drawing on the expertise and mentorship of epidemiologists and behavioral scientists in the Society’s Population Science Department, the fellow will design and establish an innovative and independent research portfolio that aligns with the Society’s mission and research priorities. The fellow will have access to rich research resources from the Cancer Prevention Studies (CPS)—large prospective studies with extensive data, including survey, biospecimen, Medicare, GIS linkages, and accelerometry.
The program is designed to train fellows to become independent yet highly collaborative researchers. Fellows will publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, present their work at scientific meetings, contribute to the foundational scientific resources of the CPS cohorts, and help shape future CPS surveys and data collection efforts. POSITION: Peer Navigator Consultant

Health Research, Inc. (HRI), a not-for-profit corporation, seeks a Peer Navigator Consultant. The consultant will assist the Post Overdose Team (PORT) staff by conducting outreach, escorts and other supportive services for people at risk of opioid overdose.
The consultant will provide direct services to individuals who have either experienced multiple overdoses, and/or had a family member or friend recently pass away due to overdose. The consultant work is completed primarily in the field as it involves escorting people from their homes to medical offices, harm reduction programs, and other health care providers.
The peer navigator consultant must have experience providing services to people who use drugs in a harm reduction setting. Knowledge of resources for individuals using drugs and living with mental illness in NYC. Experience working with diverse communities including people of color, youth, LGBTQ individuals, men who have sex with men, people who engage in sex work, people with mental illness and people who actively use drugs. Lived experience is preferred. The consultant must have the ability to travel frequently using subways and buses around all five boroughs of NYC (transportation costs will be covered).
The hourly rate will be $25 per hour, 10 hours a week.
