POSITION: Bilingual research assistants (RAs)

ORGANIZATION: CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute (CUFPI)

The CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute is seeking multiple bi-lingual research assistants to conduct street intercept and telephone surveys about New Yorker’s experiences with their food environment and various food access programs.

Preferred candidates will demonstrate experience in conducting street intercept or telephone based surveys or interviews.

Research assistants must be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, and Russian

Research assistants must commit to working for at least 60 hours on site collecting data, with potential to increase if interested. Weekly schedules can be flexible but must be completed between the hours of 10am-6pm. The hourly rate for this position is $22 an hour. MPH and dietetic intern students are encouraged to apply.

POSITION: Research Assistant 

ORGANIZATION: CUNY SPH Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC)

The Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC) project focuses on individuals’
experiences with healthcare in New York City (NYC). It is a multi‐year
collaboration with the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The project comprises focus groups and interviews with a diverse sample of NYC residents.

The Position: We are looking to hire several part-time research assistants (RAs) who will beresponsible for assisting to recruit project participants and will work closely with the HEAC Project Coordinator and other team members. The RAs will engage with New Yorkers and organizations in neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs to invite them to participate in focus groups and post project flyers. This outreach will consist of, but not be limited to: flyer distribution, event attendance and tabling, community presentation, attendance at community events, and other activities as required by the project

This position requires frequent travel to a variety of locations and events throughout NYC. Applicants must be comfortable traveling throughout the city and have the flexibility to attend occasional events on weekends and evenings.

Applicant Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a combination of the following:
 experience with or interest in research participant engagement and recruitment
 strong interpersonal and organizational skills
 comfortable interacting professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial,
ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Time Commitment and Compensation
Depending on the number of RAs hired, the positions may range between 10 and 19 hours/week, with an hourly rate between $22-25 depending on experience. Work will involve travel to different NYC locations for outreach and recruitment
events, as well as on-site work at the CUNY SPH campus. The position is available to be filled immediately.

POSITION: Fellowship on Immigrant Integration.

ORGANIZATION: The Institute on Immigrant Integration Research and Policy (III) at the Rockefeller Institute of Government

The Institute on Immigrant Integration Research and Policy (III) at the Rockefeller Institute of Government is welcoming applications for its inaugural fellowship on Immigrant Integration.

 The fellowship is an intensive three months program that runs from May 15, 2023, to August 15, 2023. Fellows will work 240 hours (20 hours per week) during their fellowship and will be awarded a stipend of $4,800. The fellowship will utilize a blended format that combines remote work arrangements with monthly in-person trips to the Institute’s headquarters in Albany, NY.

 The 2023 fellows will deepen their understanding of the contextual factors that influence integration outcomes, examine successful policies and practices for advancing immigrant integration, compile and analyze data using a range of research tools to fill the knowledge gap on immigrant integration, assess policy implications of indicators of economic, social, and civic integration, and produce policy briefs that analyze determinants of immigrant integration.

POSITION: Population Health Intern, NIH Study

ORGANIZATION: NYU Division of Epidemiology, Dept of Pop Health

This NIH‐funded study, the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics for Underserved Populations (RADx‐UP) aims to improve SARS CoV‐2 testing options for New York City residents living in public housing developments. Specifically, RADx‐UP team members engage New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents and front‐line community‐based organizations to collectively identify and then test models of delivering acceptable COVID‐19 testing options. The ultimate goal is to identify effective strategies to reduce COVID inequities in a large, high‐need population. Findings will be used to develop guidance for public housing settings nationally.
This project began as Phase I in October 2020. Now in Phase II, we are testing outreach methods to provide rapid antigen at‐home COVID‐19 test kits and testing recommendations to NYCHA residents ages 16‐29, as well as socially
isolated older adults. Prior to receiving at‐home test kits, participants will be required to complete a baseline survey, either by telephone or electronically. To understand socializing and testing practices, participants will complete 5 brief
follow‐up surveys, once a week, for a total of 6 weeks in the study.

Position Overview
We are seeking an intrepid student intern to assist with data collection. This position entails administering surveys to participants over the phone, tracking survey completion, attending community organization meetings and community
events, and following up with participants who are missing survey responses or need additional assistance to complete surveys electronically. The student intern may assist in data quality assurance and will be trained in data collection tools
such as REDCap. This is a great opportunity for those interested in data collection and the experiences of individuals in underserved communities.

Hours~20 hours/week during the summer. Flexible daytime and evening hours.
Start Date: As early as May 1st, with some flexibility
Location: 180 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016. Internship will be a hybrid of in‐office and remote work. Travel to NYCHA developments around NYC may be required.

Qualifications
 Be a current student seeking a college/graduate degree in environmental science or public health.
 Demonstrate professional maturity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
 Have a proven record of successful collaboration with others and working on a team.
 Experience with and/or commitment to serving low‐income communities.
 Personable, polite, and effective communicator.
 Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation methods is preferred, but not necessary.
 Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese is highly desirable, but not necessary.

POSITION: HHS Maternal and Child Health Performance Measurement, Data Analysis, and Informatics Fellowship

The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services. Within HHS, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) administers various programs that aim to provide equitable health care to people who are geographically isolated and economically or medically vulnerable. The HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) manages programs to improve the health and well-being of America’s mothers, children, and families.

Research Project: HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) is seeking an ORISE Fellow to support the activities of MCHB and specifically the Office of Epidemiology and Research (OER).  The Fellow would be assigned to OER within the Division of Epidemiology (DE).  The mission of OER is to: 1) Build data capacity at the national, State and local levels; 2) Strengthen the present and future workforce in maternal and child health (MCH) epidemiology and research; 3) Support applied research to ensure that MCH initiatives are evidence-based and reflect the state-of-the-science; and 4) Disseminate information and strengthen the evidence base in MCH.

OER plays a central role in MCHB through its support for performance measurement, data analysis, research, and evaluation activities across the bureau. Specifically, OER/DE provides technical assistance and scientific consultation to all of MCHB’s divisions and offices across the life-course of program development, implementation, management, and performance assessment.

OER responsibilities associated with performance measurement and evaluation are varied and extensive, ranging from: oversight and management of the Discretionary Grants Information System which serves as the repository for performance data for all discretionary investments; analysis and reporting of program data to support program management and organizational goals; research, identification and specification of performance measures for investments throughout MCHB; data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of performance data for multiple audiences; oversight and technical guidance around the development of logic models; and expert review and support for evaluations throughout the Bureau.  The ORISE Fellow will be mentored by a team of scientists and analysts with expertise in data, informatics, performance measurement, program evaluation, and public health to observe, learn from, and apply analytic and methodological approaches within the parameters of “real life” programmatic and policy decision making processes.
