The Graduate Student Epidemiology Program (GSEP) is a Maternal and Child Health leadership program and internship opportunity. GSEP is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a department of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and has been around since 1997.
Accepted interns will participate in an orientation and 10-week summer internship experience led by the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) and will receive a $7,000 stipend.

POSITION: NYC Epi Scholars program Summer Internship (paid)
ORGANIZATION: NYC DOHMH
Since 2007, the Epi Scholars Program has provided rigorous training through a full-time, paid 10-12 week summer internship program in applied epidemiology to stellar graduate epidemiology students at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). The Epi Scholars program is committed to expanding the research capacities of urban health departments to improve population health, while providing a training ground for students to put theory and research into action and develop as future public health leaders. This is a full-time work opportunity. Selected interns are expected to be available for 35 hours per week during the regular workday of the program (e.g. 9-5 pm EST).
Students in the Epi Scholars Program receive:
- An allowance to defray expenses for a full-time 10-12 week summer internship.
- Mentoring by some of the nation’s leading epidemiologists and researchers.
- Enhanced academic opportunities and seminars in methods, theory, and public health practice.
- Practical experience in statistical analysis using programs such as SAS®, SPSS ®, STATA®, or SUDAAN®.
- Opportunities to present project findings to senior epidemiologists, key stakeholders and their peers.
- Opportunities to interact and collaborate with Epi Scholars and senior public health professionals from across the country.
- The possibility of working on publishable reports and thesis support.

POSITION: Social Science Research Analyst (paid summer intern)

The Office of Evaluation and Inspections (OEI) in New York City is seeking candidates for the role of Social Science Research Analyst. This will be a paid, full-time summer internship position. This position is only open to students enrolled in the spring of 2023 with continued enrollment in the fall of 2023.
OEI is one component of the Office of Inspector General (http://oig.hhs.gov/) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Our mission is to conduct national evaluations that provide HHS, Congress, and the public with timely, useful, and reliable information on significant public policy issues. The New York OEI office works on a number of research topics including the Medicare prescription drug program, accountable care organizations, access to care, food safety, as well a variety of payment and quality issues in nursing homes, hospices, and hospitals.

POSITION: Research Scientist

RKI has an excellent opportunity for a Research Scientist to join the Evidence-Based Public Health unit (ZIG2), part of the Center for International Health Protection (ZIG). We are looking for someone ready to advance in their career in global health research.
The positions are to be filled by the next possible date starting 1 January 2023. The contract is limited until 31 December 2025.
- Tasks and responsibilities:
- · Under guidance of the principal investigator, lead the implementation of a large-scale research project in the field of international health
- · Ensure integrity of research projects in line with human subject research ethics
- · Develop research proposals in line with ZIG2 strategy and under guidance of the head of ZIG2;
- · Develop command of one or more research areas at ZIG2, including the methodology and its components;
- · Independently carry out qualitative and quantitative analyses and participate in cross-units research projects;
- · Interpret and vet results from junior staff, formulate conclusions and inform leadership;
- · Develop, assess quality, and distribute complex data sets to be used in epidemiological and statistical analyses;
- · Collaborate with and gather feedback on methods from senior RKI staff at large. Integrate feedback into updates to analytic approaches;
- · Draft presentations, and lead and co-author scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals;
- · Maintain scientific awareness and intellectual agility with research design, data, methods, and analytic techniques;
- · Provide ideas and content for the development of internal trainings; teach established trainings;
- · Other duties as assigned that fall within reasonable scope of research team;
Requirements and qualifications:
· University degree (State Examination, university diploma, Master’s) or equivalent in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, social sciences or related discipline plus several years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; a doctoral degree is required. In case of a medical doctorate or veterinarian sciences doctorate, a MSc with a focus on research methodologies would also be required.
· Experience cooperating with international partners is an advantage
· One of the two following points is required:
Experience devising and executing statistical modeling techniques independently
Experience devising and executing in-depth theory-based and thematic qualitative data analyses
· Able to travel, including to African countries, at least once or twice a year for a duration of a minimum of one week per trip
· Excellent written and oral communication skills required, including track record of success in co-authorship on multiple scientific papers, presenting results, and representing research at meetings
· Post-doctoral training in a public health related sciences field is an advantage
· Experience mentoring and developing junior employees on soft and technical skills is an advantage
· Peer-reviewed publication record
· Language skills (CEFR level): English, and French at least C1 (advanced); additional German and other language skills are an advantage.
You question previous solutions, but also new developments critically. You have excellent analytic skills, preferably both – qualitative and quantitative. You are result- and detail-oriented and you can initiate and complete tasks under tight deadlines and changing priorities – both independently and in a team environment. Flexibility with hours and workload is no problem for you.
