POSITION: HRTP: A Public Health Internship Program

ORGANIZATION: New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH)

The program is open to graduate and professional school students of public health, health education, laboratory sciences, medicine, social work, environmental engineering, public administration, accounting, mathematics, computer science, law, nursing, the social sciences, and many other majors.  HRTP offers dynamic internships in public health research, community health outreach and education, fieldwork, laboratory work and public health administration.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted by the application deadline.

ORGANIZATION: Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is the premier Hispanic nonprofit and nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization in the country dedicated to developing the next generation of Latino leaders®. CHCI provides leadership, public service, and policy experiences to outstanding Latino/a/x students and young professionals, and convenes Members of Congress and other public officials, corporate executives, nonprofit advocates, and thought leaders to discuss issues facing the nation and the Hispanic community.

Empower the Future Policy Maker within you. Begin your path toward becoming one of our nation’s future Latino policymakers. Recent college graduates can take advantage of this paid fellowship, which opens doors for talented young Latinos who are pursuing a career in public policy. Our goal is to help you accelerate your career in public policy so that more Latinos attain higher levels of policy leadership, which will make a better America for us all. You will spend nine months working in Washington, D.C., with significant exposure to leaders in congressional offices, federal agencies, national nonprofit advocacy organizations, government-related institutes, and more—growing both personally and professionally during your fellowship experience.

As a CHCI Public Policy Fellow, you will immerse yourself in the legislative process, spending four days each week (Monday-Thursday) learning all facets of public policy. On Fridays, you will join other fellows for a full day of leadership development centered on CHCI’s four Pillars of Leadership—Civic Engagement, Social Responsibility, Self Empowerment, and Promoting Community and Hispanic Culture. Your weekly programming will also prepare you to fully understand policy issues facing the Latino community and how to propose effective solutions by critically examining all sides and implications of these issues. 

CHCI PUBLIC POLICY FELLOWS WILL RECEIVE:

  • Work Experience in Washington, D.C.
  • Competitive Pay: Over the course of nine months, Public Policy Fellows will receive a gross stipend amount of $29,574. This salary is in line with that of an individual making $39,000 per year, a standard entry-level salary on Capitol Hill.
  • Benefits: Stipend or voucher to subsidize domestic round-trip transportation to Washington, D.C.; Medical, dental, and vision insurance for the fellow during the program (all premiums covered by CHCI); $80 per month Metro Stipend; Through a generous partnership with Airbnb, CHCI will offer the 2023-24 Fellowship participants housing vouchers that can be used to cover housing upon arrival to DC, for a period of up to four weeks before the start of the program.

POSITION: Multi-Country Research Fellowship

Founded in 1981, the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) is a private nonprofit federation of independent overseas research centers (ORCs) that promotes advanced research, particularly in the humanities and social sciences, with a focus on the conservation and recording of cultural heritage and the understanding and interpretation of modern societies.

CAORC fosters research projects across national boundaries, encourages collaborative research and programmatic and administrative coherence among member centers, and works to expand their resource base and service capacity. CAORC member centers maintain a permanent presence in the host countries where they operate—in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and West Africa.

The Multi-Country Research Fellowship enables US scholars to carry out trans-regional and comparative research in countries across the network of Overseas Research Centers (ORCs), as well as other countries. Launched in 1993, the fellowship supports advanced research in the humanities, social sciences, and allied natural sciences for US doctoral candidates, who are ABD (all but dissertation), and scholars who have earned their PhD. Scholars must carry out research in two or more countries outside the US, at least one of which must host a participating ORC. Applicants are eligible to apply as individuals or as teams and independent scholars are also welcome to apply. Approximately nine awards of $12,000 will be granted.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be US citizens.
  • Funding is not available for research conducted in the US.
  • Team projects are admissible and will be evaluated as a single application. Teams should submit one (1) application for the team project and a CV for each member. Note that all team members must fulfill the fellowship eligibility requirements. If awarded, a single grant of $12,000 will be issued to the team.
  • Independent scholars are welcome to apply.
  • PhD candidates must be ABD (all but dissertation) by May 2023.

POSITION: Health Informatics Scientist/Senior Service Fellow, Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE)

ORGANIZATION: CDC – National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The NIOSH Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE) is seeking a Fellow to work with a multidisciplinary team of occupational health scientists and IT professionals to support and conduct research studies and projects. 

Located at the NIOSH facility in Cincinnati, OH, this training fellowship is a full-time, remote-eligible position, being offered as part of the CDC service fellowship program under Title 42 of the U.S. Code. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and non-U.S. citizens are eligible. CDC service fellows are considered federal employees with most of the rights and benefits provided to permanent employees. Salary: $95,799. The initial fellowship appointment will be for two years with potential for renewal. 

Requirements: This position requires a degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. GS-13 equivalent Ph.D. or equivalent one year of related postdoctoral experience at the next lower grade level related to the work of the position. 

Highly qualified candidates would possess the following:

  • Experience in the design, development and implementation of health informatics systems and using machine learning and data visualization methods are highly desirable
  • Experience in IT and developing software applications, and in project management
  • Mid-career Professional (4-5 yrs experience)

The CEESP Program provides funding to students to conduct mentored cancer research in global and U.S. minority settings. POSITION:  Applied Public Health Informatics Fellowship (APHIF)

ORGANIZATION: Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE)

Applied Public Health Informatics Fellowship (APHIF) is a 2-year fellowship funded by CDC in which recent graduates and early career professionals work in a state or local health agency under the guidance of two experienced mentors. 

  • Fellows work in a full-time role and will work on informatics projects at their host site. 
  • Some of the top benefits of this program, according to former fellows, are the mentorship, connection with their peer cohort, and flexibility to take on a variety of projects and expand their skill set. 
  • This fellowship is open to individuals who hold a masters or doctoral degree from an accredited academic institution. 
  • Those who will graduate this winter or in spring 2023 are welcome to apply. 
  • As a training program, this fellowship is particularly appropriate for recent graduates and early career professionals. Applicants should have demonstrated knowledge and experience with public health informatics, data science, or a related field.  
  • Fellows must be US citizens. Individuals requiring a visa are not eligible for this program.
  • Fellows receive a stipend, reimbursement for health insurance, professional development funds, and relocation support.

POSITION: Feinstein Summer Research Internship Program

ORGANIZATION: Northwell Health, Long Island 

The Feinstein Institutes’ Summer Student Internship Program is a mentored program designed to provide current college students with hands-on experience and familiarize them with career opportunities in disease-oriented research. High school students are not eligible to participate in the internship program, but can participate in the Summer Visiting Scholar Program. Up to 25 students will be accepted into the internship program. Interns are matched with research faculty according to their stated institute of interest and work on an ongoing research project in one of the expert programs.

In addition to conducting research, Feinstein interns attend a series of specially designed workshops and seminars. At the end of the eight-week internship, students present an academic poster summarizing their research to faculty and other students.
