POSITION: Project Coordinator, Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC) Project

The Health Equity and Access to Care (HEAC) project focuses on individuals’ experiences with healthcare in New York City. It is a multi-year collaboration with the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH).
The project comprises focus groups and interviews with a diverse sample of New York City residents.
We are looking to hire a Project Coordinator who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the project working closely with the PI (Prof. Diana Romero), the HEAC Project Administrator and Associate Director of the CUNY Center for Immigrant, Refugee and Global Health (CIRGH; Elisabeth Manipoud Figueroa), and several Focus Group Moderators/Project Assistants. The HEAC Project Coordinator will manage multiple aspects of the project, including but not limited to: participant outreach and recruitment; focus group/interview scheduling and coordination; data collection management and preparation for analysis; IRB updates/amendments and renewals; contact with vendors; and overall project coordination (e.g., meetings/minutes, project summaries/updates, project document management, literature review, presentation preparation, etc).
Applicant Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a combination of the following:
- an advanced degree in public health or a related field (or be near completion)
- 2+ years of work experience with research design and implementation
- demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and assignments
- strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- strong verbal and written communication skills
- experience with Qualtrics, Dedoose and/or Excel
- working knowledge of another language (desired, not required)
Position Commitment and Compensation
Depending on the candidate’s background skills and experience, the position ultimately offered can range between 28 and 35 hours/week per week. This is a grant-funded position managed through the CUNY Research Foundation with an hourly rate between $30-35 and will include benefits. While some remote work is possible, a weekly in-office work presence is required (specific schedule to be established), as well as occasional travel to different NYC-based recruitment events/venues. The position is available to be filled immediately.

- Create and update charts relating to legislation and regulations, casework and other activities of the Office of Government and Community Affairs.
- Attend internal and external meetings, conference calls with associations, federal, state and local councils, committees and government entities. Prepare written summaries of the meetings and calls.
- Assist in the preparation, operation and follow-up for special events, visits by public officials.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings with public officials in New York City, New York State or Washington, DC.
- Work on special projects, as assigned.
- Provide staffing support for community events.

The Health and Justice EpiCenter in s responsible for providing support to NYC DOHMH Bureau of Health Promotion for Justice-Impacted Populations (HPJIP) programmatic initiatives as well as disseminating research, integrating data to monitor and evaluate evidence-based public health policies/programs, and ensuring the Bureau’s work is rooted in scientific evidence.
The Data Systems Manager will:
- – Collaborate with IT staff and vendor to develop, enhance, and implement updates in new and existing data systems (e.g., Maven, SalesForce, etc.).
- – Act as the Bureau’s liaison with vendor and other Maven and SalesForce users in the agency to understand best practices and ways to augment our use of the system.
- – Work with Maven users in the Bureau to understand the scope and requirements of various HPJIP programs and to help programs leverage the Maven system to best meet their individual program needs.
- – Identify potential system risks, troubleshot technical issues, and work with IT and developers to facilitate timely and accurate ameliorations.
- – Lead the governance of the Mental Hygiene Division’s use of the Maven Data System.
- – Oversee the migration of data from Maven to SalesForce.
- – Oversee program analytics for the Health and Justice EpiCenter’s programs.
- – Supervise staff working on reports for the Bureau’s programs.
- – Oversee the provision of technical assistance and training to HPJIP programs utilizing Maven.
- – Develop best practices and written guideline in the management and use of data systems.
Preferred Skills
- – The individual will possess project management skills as well as an ability to easily adapt to multiple programmatic and/or functional areas.
- – Proven ability and experience working in interdisciplinary groups or with individuals of different backgrounds, including clinicians, social workers, data analysts, IT staff, developers, project managers, and senior management.

POSITION: WTC Heart Project – Technician Interviewer (3 open positions)

The Barry Commoner Center for Health & the Environment, located at Queens College, CUNY, is an environmental and occupational health research institute. The mission of the Center is to identify and help rectify environmental and occupational threats to human health. Areas of current research include air pollution, immigrant and occupational health, lung cancer screening, and World Trade Center 9/11 health effects.
Work Type: We are seeking interviewers for follow-up to the World Trade Center Heart Study at the Commoner Center, Queens College. Full time for English interviewer and part time for Spanish and Polish interviewers.
- Interviewer #1 (Full-time) must be fluent in English;
- Interviewer #2 (60% time) must be fluent in English and Spanish; and
- Interviewer #3 (30% time) must be fluent in English and Polish, both written and verbal.
The technicians’ interviewers (3) will work on the World Trade Center Heart Study at the Barry Commoner Center at office and at home (hybrid). S/he will assist the project coordinator with the active annual follow-up consisting of:
TECHNICIAN INTERVIEWER Responsibilities:
- Contact and invite all the current WTCH participants to re-consent with them by email, mail, and phone, using the Consent Form.
- Enter sensitive and confidential medical data, using FileMaker Pro database
- Administer the survey online (when an email is available), by mail, or by telephone interview (in case of no response by email or mail), checking for and making attempts at obtaining any missing information in the data collected.
- Assess incident cardiac and incident neurologic events in a standardized self-administered survey conducted either online, by mail or by phone for events since last contact 2018.
- Perform interviews by phone for all subjects with suspected CV events, including positive report of cardiac symptoms, myocardial infarction, neurological symptoms, and/or stroke.
5.1 Obtain all positive interviews, all necessary physician, hospital, or death documents as recorded.
5.2 Request the medical chart for abnormalities pertaining to the study after obtaining written informed consent (HIPPA form).
Other Duties: Liaise between hospitals and participants for medical records, including conducting discussions with physicians and nurses. Schedule (online and in person) visits to the World Trade Center Heart program at Mount Sinai Hospital. Generate reports on request for Principal Investigator and summarized findings. The Polio Eradication Branch (PEB) within the Division of Global Immunizations (GID) Center for Global Health (CGH) is seeking a full-time Epidemiologist/Physician to serve on the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Team to provide technical assistance to Polio activities in coordination with Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) partners: World Health Organization, UNICEF, Rotary International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, International Federation of Red Cross/Crescent, Global Vaccine Alliance, Global Health Development, the Task Force for Global Health, and other US government and non-governmental organizations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to the planning, organization, coordination, control, integration, evaluation, and developmental work of the Polio Eradication Branch in the following functional areas: global vaccine preventable disease surveillance, epidemiology, research, laboratory services, policy development, and training.
- Identify, build and nurture partnerships within CDC and with additional organizations in the public and private sector to support global immunization activities; coordinate with other federal and international organizations and institutions, including the World Health Organization (WHO), foreign Ministries of Health, Rotary International, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and others.

- Build the science base for addressing determinants and disease/economic burden of vaccine preventable diseases; including designing research and program evaluation protocols and analyzing surveillance and research data to inform policies
- Support outbreak response and surveillance planning in EMR countries with active/at high risk for polio outbreaks, including but not limited to Somalia, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Djibouti.
- Conduct all CDC business in a professional manner, utilizing tact and diplomacy. This position will require building and maintaining close collaborations with key global health partners at the highest levels within Ministries of Health, U.S. Embassies, and with large international agencies/organizations such as WHO, UNICEF and others.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with conducting epidemiologic studies and public health surveillance
- Strong applied skills in statistical analyses (skills in disease modeling is preferred but not required)
- Knowledge of USG agencies (especially CDC and USAID), WHO, and other partner organizations
- Demonstrated effective diplomatic, communications, and interpersonal skills
- 20% travel required
